🔍 Nail Damage Under Acrylic — What’s Really Going On

During our free foot assessment day, this client came in with acrylic on her toenail. Though I do not remove acrylic, once I examined the nail, this is what I found underneath:

✅ Severe onycholysis — the nail completely lifted from the nail bed
✅ Pseudomonas bacterial infection causing the green/black discoloration
✅ Keratin breakdown from moisture trapped under the acrylic
✅ Possible secondary fungal involvement

This didn’t happen overnight.
This type of damage develops when product lifts, moisture gets trapped, and the nail stays covered for too long without proper maintenance or air exposure.
