Birth With Rachel

Birth With Rachel Pregnancy Mentor, Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator serving the Chicagoland area. You who have seen this love's payday
of wild toiling and sweet agonizing.

Being born is important
You who have stood at the bedposts
and seen a mother on her high harvest day,
the day of the most golden of harvest moons for her. You who have seen the new wet child
dried behind the ears,
swaddled in soft fresh garments,
pursing its lips and sending a groping mouth
toward ni***es where white milk is ready. You know being born is important. You know that nothing else was ever so important to you. You understand that the payday of love is so old,
So involved, so traced with circles of the moon,
So cunning with the secrets of the salts of the blood. It must be older than the moon, older than salt.

Moms! Check it out!

With a heavy heart, yet one which is full of gratitude, I announce today that I will be closing down Leche Libre. As of today, all garments are marked down between 40% - 70% OFF. www.LecheLibre.com/shop

My mission to empower women has been my motivating force and I've worked hard to reinforce this on both sides of the transaction, creating garments as accessibly priced as possible while also paying my manufacturers a living wage.

I am so proud of the work I have done to create the type of company I want to see in the world. Through doing this work, I have realized that my true passion lies in empowering people and although fashion has been part of this journey, it is not the end stop.

We are living through complicated times and I feel called to do work which goes deeper into the heart of human suffering. This past year, I have decided to go back to graduate school for Social Work to support social justice and work to empower individuals and communities who are most oppressed in our culture. This work has never felt more important than now as we are battling through this time of Coronavirus pandemic and the looming economic recession which is sure to follow.

Leche Libre has been a huge adventure for me. Success and joy has been mingled with painful self questioning, mistakes, and learning. I want to thank each and every one of you for coming along on this wild ride with me. Your participation and support have meant the world to me.

This was deemed "too real," and you might be able to see why, but what would the world look like if we were honest about the strangeness of the first few months of motherhood?

What do you think? Does this ad capture postpartum correctly?

The postpartum recovery period, also referred to as the “fourth trimester” by many experts, can be an incredibly challenging time for mothers. Not only has…

In honour of all the Mother's who have a rainbow baby.⠀
⠀
Let us remember the baby we nurtured inside our womb but never had the chance to meet, the one that we held against our skin but couldn’t take home, the one who was born peacefully asleep and the one that came home, but had to leave. ⠀

These things should not scare women who are actively working with their care providers who support their desires for their birth. I share this because it is something that needs to be spoken over and again until it isn't a problem anymore.

We spend MORE money and have MORE OBs than nearly anywhere in the world but are still losing more mothers.
Infant mortality statistics aren’t much better, a baby born in the U.S. is nearly three times more likely to die during their first year of life as one born in Finland.
The thing most of the countries have in common who are doing better? Midwifery care as the primary maternity care provider, hiring OB/GYNs (Surgeons) only when indicated.
