Westside Health Authority joins the world in mourning the loss of Rev Jesse L Jackson his living was not in vain and his impact will be felt for generations. While we mourn, let us now continue his mission!!!

Remembering I am somebody!

Today we honor a giant.

Reverend Jesse Jackson was more than a civil rights leader — he was a bridge-builder, a truth-teller, and a relentless voice for justice. He stood in rooms many were never invited into and made space for the rest of us to enter.

He taught us that hope is not passive. Hope is organized. Hope is vocal. Hope moves.

My deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones. No one is ever prepared for such a loss. My family will miss him. The nation will miss him. The world will miss him.

But his charge remains.

Now more than ever, we must keep hope alive — not as a slogan, but as a responsibility.

Rest well, Reverend.
We will carry the work forward.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson, the powerful civil rights leader who devoted his life to advancing justice and opportunity, has passed away at the age of 84.

Jackson became a key figure in the civil rights movement in Chicago fighting for racial and economic equity. From South Side pulpits to corporate boardrooms, he called for justice and demanded accountability to expand opportunities for Black communities. He challenged discriminatory hiring practices, fought for equitable school funding, and mediated racial tensions during some of our city’s most challenging moments.

Rev. Jackson’s leadership reminded us that civil rights are inseparable from voting rights, economic justice, and access to equal opportunity. His legacy is one of persistence and courage.

Today and every day, we honor his life by continuing the work he championed. At Chicago Lawyers’ Committee, we draw strength and inspiration from Rev. Jackson’s legacy and remain committed to advancing racial equity and securing economic opportunity for all.
