🔥Hot off the press: Despite major advances in genetic testing, breast cancer death rates remain disproportionately high among women of African ancestry, in part because most existing risk models were developed using European ancestry data and often fail to predict risk accurately.
Now, researchers at the UChicago Medicine have developed new polygenic risk score models using genetic data from more than 36,000 women that significantly improve risk prediction for this historically underserved population.
Published in Nature Genetics, the findings suggest that more accurate, ancestry-specific models could enable earlier screening and more personalized care, advancing equity in precision medicine.
