We can't tell you the number of times patients have come in with unexpected minor injuries when they were out on a quick scroll, cleaning their home, or even grocery shopping.

With Winter season slowly approaching, here are some helpful tips to prevent injury:

✔️ Split grocery bags evenly. One heavy bag on one side strains your lumbar spine.
✔️ Use a backpack when sidewalks are icy to free your arms and promote balance.
✔️ Keep bags close to your torso to prevent rotation injuries.
✔️ Do 10 calf raises before you pick up anything to activate lower-leg stabilizers.
✔️ Bend with your hips (always), not spine when loading bags or lifting anything heavy.

Congrats Brandon! All of us at are proud of you 🫶

From: Dr.Ingham

“Watching my student referral, Brandon Curry go from CA of the Year in 2021 to walking across the graduation stage this year was a full-circle moment I’ll never forget. Even more meaningful, it happened on the exact date I graduated 26 years ago.

That shared day reminded me why mentorship, access, and encouragement matter so much. This diploma represents more than an academic achievement; it reflects perseverance, growth, and the power of believing in someone’s potential.

Moments like this reaffirm my commitment to supporting students on their journeys. Education doesn’t just change lives, it creates legacies.”

Headaches. Brain fog. Trouble sleeping. Feeling on edge.

How often do you feel these symptoms and reach for pain relief medicine? While medications can help, it's not the only solution.

Medicine provides relief, but does nothing to treat the cure. If you get these symptoms often, it's not because of your external factors alone, but internally your nervous system is compromised.

We can't stress enough how important it is to not overlook what's happening internally.

If you want to learn more, and get an accurate checkup, call 773-868-0347 to schedule an appointment.

For our winter weekly tip, here's a 60-second warm-up to help prevent injury:

1️⃣ Neck “Yes/No” Reset: 10 seconds

Loosen your neck so you don’t brace your shoulders all day.

2️⃣ Thoracic Openers: 5 slow reps (count for 3 to 5 seconds per rep)

Hands behind head → elbows open → gentle upper-back extension.

3️⃣ Standing Hip Swings: 10 each side

Preps your hips so icy sidewalks don’t catch you stiff.

4️⃣ Ankle Circles: 5 each direction

Boosts balance + reaction time for slippery pavement.

5️⃣ Deep Core Activation: 3 slow breaths

Inhale into your ribs, exhale and lightly brace your core.
This stabilizes your spine before you carry bags or walk on ice.

Back pain rarely starts where you actually feel it.

It often begins in the small, unnoticed habits we repeat every day. Think about how you sit, how long you stand, your posture when you look at your screen, and even how you breathe under stress.

At Advanced Spine & Sports Care, we don’t just treat pain.

We help you understand the patterns behind it, so you can break the cycle instead of managing symptoms.

Because when your habits change, your health does too.

Tips to prevent injury during cold weather and protect your spine:

✅ Shorten your stride: long steps pull your pelvis forward and strain your low back.
✅ Lean slightly forward: keeps your center of gravity where you can control it.
✅ Keep your arms free: don’t keep hands in pockets; you lose balance support.
✅ Step down through your heel-to-midfoot: avoid hard heel strikes.
✅ Relax your shoulders: tension throws off balance more than ice does.
✅ Carry bags close to your body: prevents spinal rotation on unstable ground.
