📢 Advocacy Alert: The American Nurses Association is on the brink of securing a huge victory for our profession in the latest federal spending bill.

The Wins We’re Watching:

✅ Protected Funding: Successfully pushing back against $47M in proposed cuts to Title VIII Nursing Workforce programs.

✅ Minority Fellowship Program: The new bill also includes $19.5 million for the SAMHSA Minority Fellowship
Program, ensuring continued support for diverse nursing leaders.

✅ Essential Extensions: Telehealth flexibilities and mental health support through the Dr. Lorna Breen Act are set for renewal.

We give full credit to the Nursing Community Coalition for their tireless advocacy and leadership in ensuring the voice of nursing is heard.

The Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) is closely monitoring a new Department of Education proposal that could significantly impact the future of our profession.

The proposed rule seeks to exclude post-baccalaureate nursing from the higher graduate student loan caps currently available to other disciplines like physicians and lawyers. If enacted, these caps would limit graduate nursing student loans to $20,500 annually, effectively half of what other professions can access.

Why this matters to Rehabilitation Nurses

ARN strongly opposes this rule, as it creates unnecessary barriers for nurses at a time when the nation faces a critical nursing shortage. Restricting financial aid will particularly hinder nurses from disadvantaged backgrounds and compound the lack of nurse faculty needed to educate the next generation.
