Maintain optimal spine alignment. Hinge or move through the hip joint to reach down.

Avoid bending through your spine.

Train reach patterns in a range of motion that you can control through your hip joints. Avoid repetitions of compensation. This leads to tighter muscles and wear and tear on the joints.

The rotator cuff muscles take a lot of extra wear and tear when the joint is not in optimal alignment. Returning the joint to optimal alignment and maintaining it requires improving the stabilizing function of the rotator cuff muscles. Too often, the larger muscles, such as the latissimus dorsi, can contribute to muscle imbalances around the shoulder joint, making it more difficult for the smaller rotator cuff muscles to do their job.

If this is you, reach out. We can help.

During the cable row, the pulling movement occurs at the elbows and shoulders. The trunk or rib cage stays centered over the hips and pelvis.

Avoid leaning back. Also note the foot position. If you have decreased hip mobility (hip flexion), place your feet lower on the pads to avoid flexing your lower spine.
