Take it Back to Basics
📚📓📖
Yoga is more than poses — it’s a practice of awareness, choice, and connection that extends far beyond the mat. Back to Basics is a 2-hour workshop designed to reconnect you with why you practice yoga, not just how you move through it.
This workshop is open to all levels and is especially supportive for students who want a clearer understanding of what teachers are cueing, how breath and movement work together, and how yoga shows up in daily life. Through journaling, movement, discussion, and reflection, we’ll explore yoga as both a physical and philosophical practice.
Optional Pre-Readings (not required):
What Is Yoga? by Susanna Barkataki
Hinduism Today: A Youthful Primer on the Eight-Limbed Path
What We’ll Explore
Opening + Reflection
We’ll begin with a brief introduction and a grounding journal prompt:
What is yoga? Why do you keep coming back to your mat?
Foundational Flow
A simple, accessible yoga flow including Sun A, Sun B, integration, and śavāsana — offering a baseline experience to return to later in the workshop.
The Eight-Limbed Path
A clear, approachable breakdown of the eight limbs of yoga, with discussion around yoga on and off the mat — and what “yoga beyond asana” really means in modern life.
Listening Beyond the Body
We’ll pause to unpack what teachers are often speaking to in class beyond physical alignment, weaving in a short dharma talk and rest.
Sun Salutation Breakdown
A closer look at Sun A and Sun B, exploring how breath, mind, and movement link together, as well as the variations and choices available within traditional salutations.
Integration Flow + Choice
We’ll revisit the original flow — this time with options and autonomy — inviting you to move with more awareness, confidence, and agency.
Closing Reflection
We’ll end with a final journal prompt:
How did this flow feel compared to the first?
…and close with a kombucha toast to community and shared practice.
