Enjoy a fertility-friendly holiday recipe this season from your friends at Fully Fertile! 🥧

Instead of the traditional white flour crust, this pumpkin pie has a delicious crust made from pecans, dates, and coconut oil. This drastically reduces the refined carbohydrate content. The filling is lightly sweetened with maple syrup, for a healthier spin on a holiday favorite. 😋

Crust
⅓ cup pitted dates
1½ cups pecans
2 tablespoons coconut oil

Filling
15 oz. can of pumpkin or about 1-3/4 cup cooked pumpkin
½ cup canned coconut milk or whole milk
½ cup maple syrup
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon ginger
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
⅛ teaspoon cloves
2 large eggs

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Process dates, pecans, and coconut oil in a food processor until mixture is well-blended – about 30-60 seconds. Press mixture into a 9-inch pie pan and set aside. In a medium bowl, combine all filling ingredients, and whisk until well-mixed. Pour into pecan-date crust. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes, or pumpkin filling appears custard-like and the crust is lightly browned. Allow to cool before serving.

It's important to acknowledge the impact that sleep has on fertility. When we get back into our regular routines this season, sleep is an important piece of this puzzle to support your journey!

A recent review in the International Journal of Molecular Science outlines recent key findings that clearly show that disruptions in our circadian rhythms caused by stress and other lifestyle factors severely scramble the intricate hormonal and metabolic networks that orchestrate our ability to conceive.

Here are some tips for restoring your body clock:
1. Light disrupts our body clock so it’s important to sleep in a dark room and avoid electronic devices before bed.

2. Eating too close to bedtime can cause a higher-than-usual spike in insulin levels. This can disrupt metabolic function in ways that lead to lighter, more disrupted sleep.

3. Create a sleep and meal schedule. Be consistent with your mealtimes and bedtime to support good sleep hygiene.

Acupuncture, yoga, nutrition, and massage are also useful for regulating circadian rhythms. These modalities work in a number of ways, from reducing circulating levels of cortisol to training our body to initiate the relaxation response. Join the Fully Fertile community to find support and resources on your fertility journey today!
