As a Bariatric Surgeon and board-certified Obesity Medicine Specialist, I’ve always championed an integrated, evidence-driven approach to obesity care. We’ve embraced minimally invasive procedures, progressing from open surgery to minimally invasive and robotic solutions.

Simultaneously and at their early phase, the Chicago Institute of Advanced Surgery integrated the evolution of GLP-1 medications—from daily injections to weekly, and now exploring oral options. But innovation must remain aligned with evidence.

The so-called ‘GLP-1 patches’ currently lack the active compound and FDA approval.

Convenience should never supersedes safety or efficacy, and we should trust only proven solutions for patient outcomes.

Chicago Institute of Advanced Surgery is proud of our fellow Dr. Chris Bargoud who was awarded Best Fellow Presentation at the Midwest Bariatric Summit last week in Chicago.

Dr. Bargoud, Dr. Sasha Thiel and Dr. Peter Habib looked at the effect of the socioeconomics on the durability of weight loss after bariatric surgery. This is part of our holistic approach to obesity and it’s treatment.
