Goal setting is not new to me; it was instilled early and reinforced over 20 years in the United States Air Force. From my very first days in uniform, I was taught this principle clearly; if you do not set goals, someone else will set limits for you. We did not move aimlessly. We planned; we measured; we executed; and we adjusted.
That discipline carried me through two decades of service and still governs how I build, lead, and grow today.
As we step into a new season and activate our New Year plans, this is your reminder; goals must be SMART.
Specific; clearly define what you want. Measurable; track progress, not feelings. Achievable; stretch yourself, but stay grounded. Relevant; align goals with your purpose and next level. Time-bound; give it a deadline.
And let’s be clear; time frames matter. Set 1-year goals for momentum and focus. Set 3- to 5-year goals for growth and expansion. Then establish long-term goals beyond that to anchor your vision and legacy. Short-term action fuels long-term success.
If you are serious about elevation; about moving into rooms you have not yet entered; about becoming who you said you would be; now is the time to put structure behind the vision. Plans without ex*****on are wishes. Goals with timelines become strategies.
This year is not about talking; it is about doing. Create the goals. Write them down. Put dates on them. Take action daily. That next level is not waiting on permission; it is waiting on commitment.
