Onychomycosis is a nail fungus that causes thickened, brittle, crumbly, discolored, or ragged nails and toenails. This condition can be treated with oral and/or topical medications. Fungal nail infections typically don’t go away on their own, and they are quite contagious. Onychomycosis can easily spread between people by direct contact or from surfaces.
