We made it... TOGETHER! 2025 was a difficult season for many, and we honor the resilience, strength, and perseverance it took to move forward. As we welcome the new year, we reaffirm our commitment to the resolutions that guide our service every day:
to serve with compassion and integrity,
to support families beyond the service,
to honor every life meaningfully,
to move forward with hope,
and to embrace thoughtful innovation.

A new year is also an invitation for reflection, intention, and planning for the future. We encourage our community to consider personal resolutions that bring peace of mind, protect loved ones, and ensure wishes are known. Pre-planning is one meaningful way to care for your family tomorrow, today.

With gratitude for the trust you place in us, we look ahead with purpose, love, and continued commitment to this community. Here's to 2026... TOGETHER! 🎉🎊🌟💫

Nine Days of Tools | Day 9 — Christmas Eve

On a night that can feel lonely, for some, scripture offers something steady to hold onto, trust when answers feel far away, peace when hearts are heavy, hope when joy feels delayed, and love that does not disappear with loss.
Tonight, we are reminded that faith does not erase grief, but it can carry us through it.
Stevie Wonder asks, “If it’s magic, then why can’t it be everlasting love?”
For many, that everlasting love is reflected in God’s Word, unchanging, present, and near, even in sorrow.
Wherever you find yourself this Christmas Eve, may you be surrounded by comfort, grace, and gentle reminders that you are not alone.
Thank you for walking with us through these nine days.
Your grief, your way. And may peace meet you right where you are. We encourage you to share this with someone who may be in need of these tools.
Your friends at Calahan Funeral Home

Nine Christmas After Loss Survival Tools| Tools #7 & #8

The holidays can stir deep memories and big emotions. Today’s tools are gentle reminders that you do not have to carry them alone.
Tool #7: Honor Your Loved One
Grief often asks to be witnessed. Speak their name. Share a story. Light a candle, hang a stocking, cook their favorite dish, or create a small ritual that keeps their memory present in a way that feels right to you. Honoring them is honoring your love.
Tool #8: Know When to Seek Additional Support
There is strength in reaching out. If grief becomes overwhelming or if you’re struggling to eat, sleep, or feel safe, it is important to get additional support. This may look like an accountability partner, trusted loved one, or professional help. Asking for help is an act of care, not failure.

Remember: your grief, your way.

Please check back this evening as we share Tool #9, our final tool in this series.

Tools #5 & #6 — Gentle reminders for the season 🤍
As the holidays approach, it’s okay to be intentional about who you spend your energy with. Protecting your heart is part of healing. Choose spaces and people who honor where you are right now.

And when you can, consider small acts of kindness. Giving, whether through time, generosity, or a simple gesture can create brief moments of light and connection, for others and for yourself.
There is no right or wrong way to grieve.

Your grief. Your way. Check back on tomorrow for more tools and DON'T FORGET OUR TWO EVENTS TOMORROW. (SEE PREVIOUS POSTS)

Tool #4 of our Christmas After Loss Survival Tools

Today’s reminder is a gentle one: you are allowed to say no.
You are allowed to change your mind.
And you are allowed to protect your heart.
This season doesn’t come with rules—only choices. If you feel like going, go. If you don’t, that’s okay too. Grace yourself with flexibility, exit plans, and honesty about what you need in the moment.
There is strength in honoring your feelings, however they show up today.
Remember: your grief, your way—and you are doing the best you can.

TOOL #3
What if you needed to move a large piece of furniture, or a television, you would realize this is a two person or maybe even a three person job and ask for help to avoid injury. Asking for help is not weakness, it’s an act of care for yourself. Family and friends often want to support you; they may just need guidance on how to show up. Be clear about what you need, whether it’s a listening ear, a meal, or a quiet walk.
Remember: your grief is valid, and your way is the right way.

The holidays can feel especially heavy after loss. Joy and sorrow often sit side by side, and that is okay. Grief doesn’t disappear because the season is festive, and it often shows up in unexpected ways.

From today through Christmas Eve, we are sharing Holiday Survival Tools, gentle, practical reflections meant to support anyone navigating the holidays while grieving. Each day will offer a simple tool focused on grounding, emotional care, and finding steadiness during a difficult season.

We are just getting started with only 6 days until Christmas Eve. We’ll be doubling up on some days, so every tool still has space to be shared.

Whether you follow along for one tool or all nine, know this: You are not alone. Your experience matters. And it’s okay to move through this season in whatever way feels right for you.

We invite you to join us one tool, one day at a time.
