Scenario: A 75-year-old woman is admitted to home health following a recent hospital stay for a vertebroplasty procedure performed to stabilize a traumatic wedge compression fracture of the T12 vertebra. The fracture occurred after a fall in her living room at home. The patient had some redness to the incision site four days post-op and was found to have a subcutaneous abscess in the incision line. The surgeon reopened the incision and left the incision open to heal by secondary intent with application of a wound vac.
