Do you know why I love birthdays so much? Itโ€™s just another opportunity to ask God what else He has in store for the year. Itโ€™s another time to sit back and notice all the great things in your life. โฃ

This morning, as I spent time with God, I asked what He had for me as I turn 27. I felt like I heard Psalm 34. Itโ€™s not one Iโ€™m familiar with, but I turned to it right away. โฃ
โฃ
In the footnotes of my study Bible it reads, โ€œThis psalm is an expression of thanksgiving for Godโ€™s protection and care for those who trust in Him.โ€โฃ
โฃ
That couldnโ€™t be more perfect. Sometimes I struggle with fear specifically when things in my body feel off. Having learned and studied the body a lot, I naturally always assume the worst is happening (Iโ€™m sure all those medical professionals feel me ๐Ÿ˜‚). But today God said NO MORE! He told me to trust and to know I am protected and He CARES for me so deeply. As it says in this Psalm, I sought the Lord and he answered me and delivered me from my fears! And He will continue to do it every time I fear over little things. โฃ

God is SO good. He always knows exactly what we need. What a great way to start my birthday ๐Ÿ’•

Youโ€™re human. We all do it. But works do ๐ง๐จ๐ญ gain any of these things. ๐…๐š๐ข๐ญ๐ก does. Godโ€™s grace is the only way to salvation. He wants your heart and if He has your heart, you can have a faith that is unwavering. You will be a son or daughter of God who lives to know Him and grow deeper in a relationship with Him. โฃ

Wanting to do good works isnโ€™t wrong- itโ€™s actually a good thing, but when you lose the ๐˜ง๐˜ข๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ฉ behind it, then you forget the reason Jesus died on the cross. If doing works and following the law was the way to salvation, then Jesus died on the cross for nothing. โฃ

Pray for more love toward God. A love that produces BIG faith. A love that sees those around you the way God does. A love that lives in a deep faith. A love that wants to capture the lost, those that donโ€™t know Him. He so deeply longs for that and by praying for more of that love, we can long for that as well ๐Ÿ’•

What does that even mean? Most people would say we help people get better with massage or ultrasound or maybe some people would also include exercise. โฃ

All PTs are movement specialists. We help people get back to optimal functioning and doing what they want to do each day. As an ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ฉ๐ž๐๐ข๐œ ๐ฉ๐ก๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ฉ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ, I work with people who have pain/injuries to their muscles, joints, bones, ligaments, and tendons. I would do a formal evaluation to figure out what tissue is the ๐˜ฑ๐˜ข๐˜ช๐˜ฏ ๐˜จ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ or to assess where you are after a surgery. โฃ

Not all PTs specialize, but going through residency has definitely made me into a much stronger PT because of specializing. I am currently studying for the Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OCS) Exam. This is a board certified exam you are able to take once completing residency and officially qualifies your as a specialist in orthopedics.

Ortho PTs do much more than you probably realize. We educate you on activities you can or cannot do (which may be temporary), we teach you strengthening and endurance exercises, we teach you how to increase your mobility in limited joints or increase your flexibility in tight muscles. We make you sore- in a good way ๐Ÿ˜‹ We ๐ž๐ฆ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ you to be independent and be able to do it ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ ๐˜บ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ณ ๐˜ฐ๐˜ธ๐˜ฏ!โฃ

In some states, you can walk into a PT clinic without a note from your physician and they can treat you right away for your back, neck, or hip pain. Ask me about it! Ask your friend who is a PT! We are there to help you!

I lost 8 pounds in the first three months of residency- but ๐ง๐จ๐ญ on purpose. โฃ

Building muscle has always been hard for me. I have a fast metabolism, so unless I eat A LOT, my muscle will not build. In the first three months of residency, I was working a ton, studying, adjusting to Houston, and trying to work out, but only going about 3-4 times a week. Because of my 12 hour shifts, I didnโ€™t have a lot of time to eat in the capacity I was used to. ๐’๐จ ๐ˆ ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐Ÿ– ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐œ๐ฅ๐ž ๐Ÿ˜ฉโฃ

I was so frustrated and felt like I had lost so much progress I had spent 3+ years working toward. I didnโ€™t track my food much, I worked out half the amount I was used to and a lot of the time the work outs werenโ€™t my best. But I was learning. I was becoming better for my patients and for myself. โฃ

Now that year has passed, Iโ€™ve had about 4-5 months to become consistent again. Iโ€™m more focused on my work outs, Iโ€™m eating more like I need to for my body type, and Iโ€™m seeing results again. Sure Iโ€™m not as lean as before, but thatโ€™s not the point. Iโ€™m still strong and Iโ€™m still capable. โฃ

Situations change and things happen. Make goals, but realize they may change when other things have to be the main priority. What works for me to build muscle, may not be the exact thing you need. The consistency, hard work, focus and correct food intake per your body type are what matters. The gym will still be there when you get back to it or when you first begin ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

There is constantly something or someone pulling for your attention. Society views success as someone having a completely full calendar or being involved in ten organizations or ten project at once. I fall victim to this mentality all the time. Iโ€™m a 3 on the enneagram if that tells yโ€™all anything ๐Ÿ˜‚ But one of the biggest lessons God has taught me, is to ask Him when I should say yes to things. Itโ€™s not easy, but man ๐‡๐ข๐ฌ โ€œ๐ฒ๐ž๐ฌโ€ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐‡๐ข๐ฌ โ€œ๐ง๐จโ€ are the greatest! I constantly have to remind myself of this. โฃ

Itโ€™s okay to stay in on a Friday and Saturday. Itโ€™s okay to go do something fun on a week night. Itโ€™s okay to sign up for that extra curricular when your schedule feels busy and itโ€™s also okay to say no. Itโ€™s even better when God is the one helping you decide those answers because He knows your capacity and He will increase it when He speaks it ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

It takes a lot of planning ahead and being willing to eat the same things throughout the week. Just like anything else, it takes getting used to it and making it a part of your routine. โฃ

Find some meals you enjoy and start with those. Find recipes you like, write down a list for what you need and then go from there! It has saved me so much money and so much time throughout the weeks. โฃ

You may desire to have motivation to go to the gym, to pay off your loans, or to invest in your career, but motivation is an emotion and is often times fleeting. Discipline is a practice that when implemented consistently trains your body and mind to enjoy and desire your goals. โฃ

When you want to feel motivated, instead ๐ฉ๐ซ๐š๐ฒ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐œ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ž. Pray for endurance and perseverance to reach whatever goal you have on your heart. Share your goals with your friends for accountability and use tools (like an Apple Watch) to remind you of your progress. โฃ

The main screen on my watch is the Activity face so that I have a constant reminder of how much Iโ€™ve moved each day. โฃ

Of course I would love to eat out with my friends every weekend, but does that let you reach your goals? Why not eat beforehand and then go join them? Or meet up with them at your friends after dinner. Or maybe you should wait to buy those cute leggings.โฃ

Eat out less: This alone can save you so much money to be using elsewhere or saving in whatever way you need. I plan on posting more of my meals and showing what we buy at the store. You can do this much easier than you think. โฃ

Make your decisions based on YOUR income, not someone elseโ€™s: Just because your neighbor drives a Porsche, doesnโ€™t mean you have to. Just because your friend wears all Lululemon, doesnโ€™t mean you need to. The media portrays things without the behind the scene details, so donโ€™t spend money based off that or the pressures advertising brings.

The devil would ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž for you to believe all of the lies that are in your head. He would love for you to claim them as your own and start to believe them. He wants you to believe things like:โฃ

Iโ€™m not prettyโฃ
Iโ€™m not smart enough โฃ
They only like me because....โฃ
They invited me out of pity โฃ
Iโ€™m never going to be as thin as herโฃ

God doesnโ€™t want me to find a husband โฃ

LIES. All of those are lies. There are 3 main voices that can try to communicate with you throughout the day. โฃ

1- Your own voice: The voice that serves your desires immediately. The one that may or may not align with Godโ€™s desires. โฃ
2- The enemyโ€™s voice: the one that speaks negative to you, calls you names, and never encourages you โฃ
3- Godโ€™s voice: the voice that speaks of your true identity, the one who encourages you, the one who calls you by your worth and ignites dreams in you. It will ALWAYS align with His word, will and character. Sometimes this one might be the quietest of them all, but you can learn to hear it more clearly. โฃ

If you believe God is real, you have to believe the devil is real and learn how to distinguish his voice. The enemy knows what will tear you down and knows how to disguise his voice to sound like truth. His voice is magnified in isolation, but Godโ€™s voice is magnified in community. Be willing to share your thoughts with others so that they can shed light on the TRUTH!

We all have them, but they donโ€™t always look the same. One of the ๐›๐ข๐ ๐ ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ reasons I see that people donโ€™t hit their goals is because they donโ€™t stick to a plan long enough to see it through. There are always people telling you to do this or try that and we switch from one thing to the next. Pick a program that lines up with ๐˜บ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ณ goals and see it through for at least 12 weeks. โฃ

Whether your goal is to lose weight, building muscle, or simply live a healthy lifestyle, they are all possible! It just might take some time to put in the research and figure out whatโ€™s best for you. And remember it wonโ€™t happen overnight. There is no secret recipe. Use whatever small motivations you need to keep moving and stay ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ง๐ญ with a program! โฃโฃโฃ

During residency, I wasnโ€™t able to spend as much time in the gym as I was used to. So over that year as I was pouring into my career, I wasnโ€™t as focused on the gym. My muscles got smaller and many days that was hard for me, but now I have the time to be consistent again and start building again! Not every season allows for us to do it all. โฃโฃ

Is the level of your input enough for the level of your output?
Do you get enough sleep for the day ahead? Do you educate yourself enough about your job so that you can succeed? Do you spend enough time in the gym so you will see the results you want? Do you eat enough food throughout the day to give you the energy you need? Do you spend enough time in the word so you can know Jesus and tell others about Him? Do you spend enough time educating yourself so that you know how to workout properly?
We all need to spend time investing into various things so we can then apply them. The level of your INPUT must be larger than the level of your OUTPUT.

Moving always means change. Change can be hard. It means finding a new church home, a new gym, and starting new relationships with people. Even as someone who has been in church, going to a new church can be scary. I get it! I pray that those of you who are considering going for the first time or the first time in a long time, will take a leap of faith. Today, the pastor spoke that God had told him that through all of the devastation surrounding Houston, the church needed to BE PRESENT.
My heart immediately melted. At he beginning of this year, I prayed for Jesus to give me a word over this year. I heard BE PRESENT. I have been constantly going back to this, but now it has been confirmed and feels even more real and necessary.
If I had decided to just stay home or just go next week, I wouldn't have heard exactly what God needed to tell me. I must be present to this new city, new friends, and new opportunities to continue living my life for God. He is so good!
