There are many reasons as to why you may have chronic swelling in your body. For example: allergies, post-surgery, lymphedema/lipedema, poor diet and/or a compromised lymphatic system. As always, you need to consult with your doctor as to why you may have the swelling, before you try any remedies yourself and of course if you experience any pain.
Here are a few tips to help with your chronic swelling:
*Swimming - The water acts as a compression garment, decreasing the swelling right away and then walking/ light moderate exercise helps to pump the lymphatic system, which boosts the immune system and decrease swelling.
*Moderate walking - it helps pump the lymphatic system to decrease swelling.
*Yoga – deep breathing and controlled muscle pumping to increase the uptake of lymphatic fluid
*Essential oils – Grapefruit, lemon, myrrh, oregano, cypress and frankincense oils. Never put 100% of the essential oil directly on skin. Dilute it first by taking a tablespoon of grapeseed, coconut or almond oil with 2/3 drops of the essential oil and then massage the mixture directly on the swollen body part. *MLD - Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a light and soft massage that directly affects the lymphatic system, to decrease any swelling, increase relaxiation and the immune system and to detox the body greatly.
*Omega-3 fish oils and turmeric are also beneficial for improving blood flow and lowering inflammation. Supplements that can further help lymphatic drainage and detoxification include burdock root, digestive enzymes, activated charcoal and milk thistle. (information came from www.draxe.com)
