DBT talks a lot about Effectiveness — doing what works in the moment, especially during social or family gatherings.

Effectiveness might look like:
• Taking a quiet sip to ground yourself
• Choosing to listen instead of react
• Setting a boundary with compassion
• Noticing one good thing in the room

Skillfulness doesn’t require perfection — just awareness and intention.

Being around family or loved ones can bring up emotions. DBT offers tools like Checking the Facts to help us understand what’s happening internally.

Before jumping to conclusions, ask:
• What do I know to be true?
• What assumptions am I making?
• Is my emotion fitting the facts, or is it amplified by stress, fatigue, or the season?

A warm drink, a grounded breath, and a moment of clarity can shift the whole experience.

Cozy moments count as coping skills. 🍁📖

In DBT, self-soothing with the senses can help calm the nervous system when emotions run high.

Think warmth, softness, quiet, and a good book — little anchors that help you feel grounded.
