It’s never too early to learn about the impact of kidney health and what steps you can take to prevent kidney disease. The National Institute of Health found that over 35 million Americans live with some form of a kidney disease. In many cases, the stage of the condition will reach a high level of severity because the diseases are overlooked or unchecked.

National Kidney Month is a great time to stop and assess your own health and learn if you are at risk for any chronic kidney diseases (CKD). There are several steps you can take that are within your control including managing blood sugar levels, healthy weight and stress levels. Increasing hours of sleep and exercising are great options as well.

If you or a loved one is in need of more support or resources for improving your kidney health, visit www.stbh.org or call 773-962-4075 to connect with our team.

It’s World Oral Health Day!
The World Health Organization (WHO) has found that over 3.5 billion people across the world experience some form of oral disease, including tooth decay, gum disease and tooth loss. Several lifestyle choices can play a factor in developing oral health diseases, including sugar consumption, to***co use and poor dental hygiene.
Luckily, these conditions can be prevented. Brushing teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and routinely visiting the dentist are easy and effective ways to take care of your dental health.
Do you want to schedule an appointment with a dentist or are you in need of more information about good oral health? St. Bernard’s Dental Center is here for all Englewood residents. Connect with us by visiting us at www.stbh.org or calling (773) 962-4075.

Insulin intake is a critical part of treating diabetes. For patients living with diabetic conditions, keeping track of dosage levels is necessary for managing health and lifestyle.
Unfortunately, the standardized methods of inpatient insulin are generalized and aren’t tailored to the changing needs of patients. To overcome these challenges, St. Bernard is proud to introduce the state-of-the-art software, eGlycemic Management System® (eGMS) by Glytec. This new technology will revolutionize the process of insulin management for patients living with diabetes. This system utilizes Glytec’s FDA-approved algorithm Glucommander® to identify the specific needs of each patient to better manage their diabetes.
With this new change, St. Bernard Hospital is taking a strong, proactive role in diabetic management and creating a new standard of treatment for all their patients on the South Side. The American Diabetes Association has developed a 60-second test to assess your own risks of diabetes and to begin taking proactive steps for your health and wellness! Take the assessment today at https://diabetes.org/diabetes-risk-test or scan the QR code now!
If you or a loved one is prediabetic or living with diabetes, we are here to support you every step of the way! Schedule an appointment with us at www.stbh.org or call us at (773) 962-4075!

We’re continuing our celebration of Women’s History by celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Alice Hamilton, a healthcare pioneer known by many as the mother of U.S. occupational medicine.
Dr. Hamilton’s extensive public health experience while at Jane Addams Hull House and as a pathology professor at Northwestern University, helped identify hazardous work conditions and industrial diseases unknown to many in the 20th century. Her insights and expertise led her to become the first female professor ever appointed at Harvard University.
Her advocacy for the wellbeing of workers has helped shape safety standards in the workplace and has left a legacy on today’s healthcare workers.
Thank you, Dr. Hamilton, for your unwavering commitment!
