Glaucoma remains the leading threat to vision health, especially for African Americans. According to the National Eye Institution (NEI), Black patients have been found to be six times more at risk of vision loss than white patients.

St. Bernard is a strong advocate for high quality vision health for our patients. This week is a World Glaucoma Awareness Week and we are encouraging everyone to take advantage of the optometry resources we have available for South Side residents at our eye clinic.

Our team is expertly trained to support your vision needs with available screenings for glaucoma and other necessary exams. Schedule your next appointment today by visiting www.stbh.org or calling (773) 962-4075!

It’s Women’s History Month and this year we are celebrating and uplifting the lives of pioneers in medicine and health care!
Today, we are looking at the groundbreaking work of Dr. Rebecca Crumpler, the first Black woman in the United States to earn an MD. Her work as a physician did more than just break racial and gender barriers in medicine; it also paved the way for generations of doctors and medical professionals.
Dr. Crumpler’s experiences and insights were documented in her book, A Book of Medical Discourses in Two Parts. This medical resource shed light on maternal health care, child health, diseases and nutrition. The knowledge Dr. Crumpler shared was revolutionary and introduced new safety measures when treating patients.
Thank you, Dr. Crumpler, for your incredible contributions to the medical field and to the wellbeing of community health.
