Nestled in a quiet Chicago neighborhood, The Danish Home, established in 1891 is a boutique continuing care retirement community that offers a secure, caring environment for its residents. At The Danish Home, we welcome applicants of any background. Yet a core of Danish-at-heart residents, staff and board members lead the community in maintaining long-running traditions and welcoming new ones brought to The Danish Home by residents of different heritages. You will enjoy lively outings, activities, and get-togethers in a close-knit setting. Comfortable rooms and suites are just steps away from tastefully decorated public spaces where you may host small private gatherings. Outside is a beautiful park-like garden, the site of many summer picnics and parties. Best of all, no matter how your circumstances might change, you can count on The Danish Home. Since our community is licensed for several levels of care, you know that once you have entered The Danish Home, you do not have to worry about the future! New residents and their families quickly get to know everyone else: residents, staff, and volunteers. At The Danish Home, there are no strangers-only friends you haven’t made yet!

The Danish Home of Chicago held a merry and bright Holiday Birthday Party on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Residents and guests enjoyed Glogg, Buttered Raisin Rolls and Danish Birthday Cake. The Danish National Committee of Chicago was the event sponsor, and Danish National Committee President Nicolai Schousboe brought greetings. MC Karen Peterson led the singing of Christmas Carols, while Kevin Zehme played the piano. Everyone enjoyed the chance to win some festive holiday-themed gifts from the prize cart!

The Danish Home of Chicago residents and friends had fun playing Christmas Bingo at the Danish American Athletic Club’s Annual Aebleskiver and Glogg Party on Monday, December 15, 2025.

The festive holiday event was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Bingo winners had their choice of fabulous Christmas prizes from the gift table.

The Danish Home of Chicago residents enjoyed participating in the 31st Annual Danish Christmas Service on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at the beautiful Edison Park Lutheran Church in Chicago. The “Julegudstjeneste” was led by Rev. Dr. Karen E. Knutson. The Chicago Norsemen, under the direction of Dr. Paul Nielsen, entertained. Following the traditional Danish holiday service, a wonderful Fellowship Hour was provided by Danish Sisterhood Dagmar Lodge #4 in the church basement.

The Danish Home of Chicago is getting ready to host its own “Holiday” Birthday Party on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 2 PM. Everyone is welcome! The December Birthday Party is sponsored by The Danish National Committee of Chicago! Come join the festivities! Happy Holidays to all!

It’s a magical time of year at The Danish Home of Chicago.

On Saturday, December 6, 2025, The Danish Home’s residents enjoyed a visit with Santa Claus at the Danish American Athletic Club’s Traditional Danish Christmas Dinner.

The evening event at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Arlington Heights, IL also included a delicious buffet dinner, singing holiday songs and dancing around the Christmas tree.

The highlight of the evening was the surprise appearance by Santa Claus to deliver gifts.

Many thanks to the DAAC for inviting The Danish Home’s residents as special guests for the party.

The Consulate General of Denmark hosted its Annual Holiday Reception on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 on the 39th Floor of the John Hancock Building in Chicago. More than 100 people attended the festive Christmas event, including 11 residents and staff members from The Danish Home of Chicago. Visitors enjoyed warm glogg, delicious aebleskiver, kringle and other Danish specialties. During his welcome speech, Consul General Jesper Køks Andersen spoke about the strong business connections that the Consulate General builds and generates throughout the year between Denmark and the USA. He also said one of the highlights of the year was the recent Royal Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at The Danish Home of Chicago on September 6, 2025 and the visit by Her Royal Highness Princess Marie of Denmark for the occasion. Happy Holidays to everyone!
