Join us for When Love Changes Shape, a three-part virtual series designed for individuals and families navigating Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias — with particular attention to the lived experiences of Black women and men.

Facilitated by David Robertson, MA, LMSW, this series invites caregivers and clinicians into thoughtful, compassionate conversation about caregiving, grief, shifting identities, and understanding dementia through a neurological lens rather than a moral one.

Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia can reshape relationships, roles, and the way we understand love itself.

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat—and in that single, steady act of courage, she helped ignite a movement. Her resistance sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a struggle that lasted over 300 days until our community triumphed.

Today, we honor her legacy and remember this truth:

Resistance is constant. Resistance is steady. Resistance is audacious.
May we continue to rise, refuse, and reimagine a world rooted in justice and dignity for us all.

We are proud to highlight the work of our Founder and Principal John Sykes, an integrated practitioner, somatic abolitionist, and facilitator dedicated to cultivating spaces of healing, connection, and growth.

John believes that healing begins in connection with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us. Their work centers curiosity, compassion, and the creative process of becoming. John approaches therapy as a co-created relationship, where both client and therapist bring lived experience and wisdom toward healing and liberation.

John enjoys working with children, teens, and adults navigating identity, relationships, trauma, and life transitions. They also support groups and teams processing the impacts of systemic oppression, loss, and collective stress. Their practice invites authenticity, reflection, and the chance to reconnect with belonging and agency.

Grounded in relational, anti-racist, liberatory, and trauma informed practice, John supports individuals and communities in deepening self awareness and building vitality. They are a facilitator of healing who brings both rigor and humanity to every space they enter.

John holds degrees from Northeastern Illinois University and Loyola University Chicago and brings decades of experience in community mental health, trauma treatment, clinical leadership, and teaching on decolonizing practice and reflective supervision.

Outside of work, John enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with their spouse and dog. We are grateful for their vision, leadership, and commitment to collective healing.

New CEU Eligible Healing Space for Q***r and Trans Practitioners of Color

We are excited to offer a monthly Liberatory Healing Circle created for Q***r and Trans Practitioners of Color who hold the trauma, hurt, and hope of under resourced and oppressed communities. This space supports restoration, reflection, and collective care with guidance from John Sykes, MSW, LCSW.

The most important update: Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) are now available for all participants.
This circle is a space for healing and it is also a meaningful professional development opportunity for those doing the work of care, advocacy, and community support.

Our intention is to offer a learning environment that nourishes practitioners while honoring lived experience, cultural wisdom, and the complexity of holding space for others.

If you or someone you know is looking for a restorative community space and wants to earn CEUs while engaging in reflective practice, we welcome you to join us.
