NANS was formed in 1994 through the efforts of a group of neuromodulators dedicated to patient care and to advance the science and application of neuromodulation to benefit patients. The North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS) links patients, physicians and health care professionals, scientists, engineers, and industry to advance neuromodulation, drive multidisciplinary collaboration, enhance therapy awareness and inspire innovation to transform patients’ lives.

CMS has finalized the 2026 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, introducing a new 2.5% “efficiency adjustment” that reduces work RVUs for non–time-based services.

This policy could significantly impact reimbursement for procedural and interventional specialties.

We are saddened to share the passing of Dr. Richard Rauck, MD, FIPP — an internationally recognized leader in pain medicine and a former member of the NANS Board of Directors (2015–2017).

Dr. Rauck dedicated his career to advancing evidence-based treatments for chronic pain and improving the lives of patients worldwide.

Several Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) have proposed policies that would classify peripheral nerve blocks and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) procedures—including genicular, shoulder, and hip—as “not reasonable and necessary.”

If finalized, these policies could severely limit access to evidence-based, effective treatments for chronic pain.

Before the comment period closes, make your voice heard.

📢 CMS has directed all Medicare Administrative Contractors to continue holding claims dated October 1, 2025, and later, including those under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

While Medicare and Medicaid remain operational, many critical flexibilities have expired — including most telehealth coverage and the 1.0 GPCI floor that affects physician payment rates.

These disruptions create challenges for physicians and patients alike. NANS continues to advocate with the AMA and national partners to protect practice stability, safeguard reimbursement, and ensure access to neuromodulation care.
