I want your input! 😂

I’m Allison, the owner of Read & Run Tours, and I’ve hosted over 120 community events in Chicago.

Now, I help authors, creatives, and brands host experiential events that actually build community.

I’m about to make a video series with book and author event tips, but I want an unhinged shtick…👀

…Just edgy enough to keep your attention…but not too off the rails that you don’t trust me—you get the vibe?

Tell me your vote in the comments!

Hey, , ready to run? 👟

In every Writers Who Run column, asks authors which of their characters or people they’ve written about they’d go on a run with.

For Nicholas Triolo in his eco-adventure memoir, The Way Around: A Field Guide to Going Nowhere, his answer was an easy one: one of his heroes, renowned narrative nonfiction author Robert Macfarlane.

Listen to this video for Nicholas’s “Speed Work” part of the interview, and tap the link ‘Writers Who Run’ link in bio to read or watch the full interview and hear more about Nicholas, his writing, and of course, his hero.

Huge congrats to organizer Malissa for hosting her first Read & Run on the Road event and bringing the magic of Read & Run Tours to Seattle!

Runners ran a route inspired by No-No Boy, a crucial—and lesser known—1957 novel telling the story of a Japanese-American who refuses to fight during the war—and after is shunned by his now divided community.

After the route, runners met at .

Frank is an award-winning author who has edited, led, and contributed to everything from graphic novels about Japanese-American resistance to wartime incarceration to anthologies to the first-ever Day of Remembrance in 1978.

He won an American Book Award for his 2018 biography of John Okada, JOHN OKADA: The Life & Rediscovered Work of the Author of No-No.

📝👟 Writers Who Run: Nicholas Triolo

Come for the mountain, stay for the humanity.

That’s what happens to Nicholas Triolo in his eco-adventure memoir, The Way Around: A Field Guide to Going Nowhere.

Nicholas embarks on three expeditions to mountains, but there was no summiting–just circling. Inspired by the Tibetan meditative practice of Kora, he completes three extended walks around Mount Kailash in Tibet, Mount Tamalpais in California, and the Berkeley Pit in Montana. As he details his journey, readers experience not only landscapes, but also the “parallel gravitational centers” of three characters he meets along the way. The humanity.

Learn more about Nicholas and his writing, plus his loosening pursuits as an ultrarunner and his distaste for fake plants on this month’s Writer Who Run column.

Writers Who Run: Stephanie Reents ✍️👟

Marathon training and writing a novel require different skills, sure—but the mindset required for both has more in common than you’d think.

“When I was training for [the New York City Marathon], I just remember when I was about to go out on a two hour run, there was no possible way to make the run go faster. You just had to get into the right frame of mind to make peace with the length of the run and all the things that you would feel during the run. The same is true of writing. You have to be patient. You have to open yourself up to surprise and disappointment and frustration. There’s nothing that will make a novel write itself faster. You just have to show up every day and do the work. That’s what running taught me, was to show up every day and do the work and be patient,” says We Loved to Run author Stephanie Reents.

THREE THINGS TO TAKE AWAY FROM A BOOK EVENT!

There are all sorts of events you can host as an author, but we specialize in EXPERIENTIAL events—and here’s what an upcoming book event at in Chicago does right:

1. DISRUPTS THE NORM

Who said a book event has to be at a library or bookstore?

2. HAVE AN ACTIVITY

If you’re going to keep engaging with new audiences, think outside the box—and make it accessible to folks outside the “literary community.”

3. EXCLUSIVE & UNIQUE

What will folks get at your book event they can’t get anywhere else or any other time?

📚✨📚

Does planning your book event scare the F*** out of you? DM for info on event planning services or visit readandruntours.com to schedule a call.
