This National Social Work Month, we recognize and celebrate the incredible impact of social workers in our community.

At the The University of Chicago, we are especially grateful for individuals like Roshnee and Renee, whose compassion, dedication, and expertise help support patients, families, and research every day. Their work is essential to advancing care, strengthening connections, and ensuring that people feel seen and supported.

We are thankful for all that they do—and for the vital role social workers play in the work we do every day.

Last Saturday, we partnered with South Loop Village to present at the Chicago Women’s History Conference 2026.

It was an honor to lead a session on demystifying dementia and to share information across the full spectrum of cognitive aging, from dementia to SuperAging Research Initiative. We also explored the role of risk and resilience in women and why brain health is such an essential part of Women’s Health.

These conversations matter, and we are grateful to help raise awareness and share knowledge, especially during .

Just ONE month until Release the Silence returns! Alzheimer's Association Illinois Chapter

Last year, we filled the room with powerful conversations, shared stories, and meaningful connections around caregiving and Alzheimer’s in the Black community. Join experts from UChicago Medicine - Urban Health Initiative, The University of Chicago SHARE Network, and a team of UChicago Medicine social workers, clinicians, and researchers for a day of learning, resources, and connection. Ask questions, gain practical information, and connect with other caregivers and community members.

Don’t miss this impactful day of education, support, and community. Register here: https://www.alzillinois.org/release-the-silence

Thank you to The Growth Gathering Fellowship for inviting us to participate in their first Purple Sunday. It was an honor to partner with the Alzheimer's Association Illinois Chapter to share education and resources on brain health, dementia, and caregiving with this faith community.

We are also grateful to Smyle Fit, Center for Better Aging, and the Center for Disability and Elder Law for joining us to share resources on dementia education, caregiving support, advance care planning, health and wellness, and fall risk assessments for older adults.

Events like this help strengthen partnerships between healthcare providers, universities, community organizations, and faith communities across Chicago—connecting families with the resources they need.

Special thanks to Tim Woods, a member of Growth Gathering Fellowship and a board member of the Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, for your leadership and collaboration!

March is National Social Work Month, and today we’re proud to spotlight Tessa and the incredible work she does to support patients, families, and our community at The University of Chicago.

“Social work is often working behind the scenes to embrace the entire patient’s care and family system, because memory, aging, and dementia impact every facet of life.”

Through compassion, advocacy, and dedication, social workers like Tessa help ensure patients and families receive the support and resources they need at every stage of care. Thank you, Tessa, for the meaningful difference you make every day!
