Dr. Joanna Slusky attended Northwestern University, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Illinois College of Optometry. Her academic merits include the Tomb and Key Honor Fraternity, and Beta Sigma Kappa International Honor Society academic honor recognition. In addition to providing comprehensive eye examinations, Dr. Joanna has a special interest in pediatric vision care, and the management of the anterior segment of adult eyes. Ocular allergy, dry eye, and specialty contact lens care are the emphasis of her vision and ocular health care in our community. Dr. Joanna has been recognized by the leaders of the contact lens industry for her recommendations for the best vision care options for her patients. February is Age Related Macular Degeneration AMD & Low Vision Awareness Month 👁️💙

From all of us at Halsted Eye Boutique + Eye See Ravenswood, this month is about education, early detection, and protecting your vision for the future.

Age related macular degeneration affects the macula, the part of your eye responsible for sharp, central vision. It can make reading, driving, and recognizing faces more difficult.

There are two types
• Dry AMD, more common and progresses slowly
• Wet AMD, less common but more advanced and can progress quickly

Risk factors include age 50+, family history, smoking, high blood pressure, and UV exposure.

Low vision refers to vision loss that cannot be fully corrected with glasses, contacts, or surgery, but there are tools and treatments that can help improve quality of life.

The most important step is early detection 👁️✨
Many people do not notice symptoms right away, which is why routine comprehensive eye exams are so important.

If you are over 50 or have risk factors, this is your reminder to schedule your annual exam.
