Explore how chronic stress and trauma create allostatic load, impacting the brain, body, and long-term health across systems.

This event will be recorded and sent to all registered participants for those that can’t attend live. This workshop is for both mental health professionals and trauma survivors. You may choose to attend with your screen on or off based on your preferences.

With so much attention given to the nervous system, as a culture we have, again, over emphasized one process over all the others in terms of healing from trauma and regulating stress. This workshop explores the concept of allostatic load, which is the cumulative wear and tear on the body caused by chronic stress. We will examine how trauma can disrupt multiple biological systems over time. This workshop will connect theory to real-world experiences, helping attendees better understand how trauma is stored in the body and expressed across systems.

In this workshop, you will learn:
1    Understand the conecpt of Allostatic load and assess the potential load that trauma survivors carry.
2    Explore the 11 organ systems in the body and how trauma affects many of them, not just the nervous system.
3    Learn the importance of blending parts work, somatics, and medicine for a more systemic approach to healing.

Join Sabrina Mirza, LCSW for her new group: The BIPOC Multicultural Identity Process Group offers a supportive space for individuals from diverse multicultural backgrounds—including but not limited to immigrants, first- and second-generation individuals, and those with intersecting identities to explore identity, belonging, and connection. This group is for those navigating identity confusion or shame, cultural value conflicts, intergenerational trauma, and challenges with boundaries or finding affirming community. Through shared reflection and dialogue, participants may build self-understanding, strengthen their voice, and cultivate a deeper sense of belonging.

“Our understanding of trauma and effective approaches to its treatment have increased dramatically over the last two decades. Much of the focus has centered on neurobiology and physiology, leading to invaluable insights into how trauma is experienced and stored in the mind as well as the body.

While our knowledge of the biological processes resulting from traumatic experiences has grown, our appreciation for the role of the psyche has diminished. This often leaves therapists unequipped to access areas of traumatic experience and recovery that are less material, yet still of vital importance.

This presentation proposes the need to reclaim and reintegrate the psyche in trauma work and investigates how this supports the potential of the symbolic to emerge as a conduit for cohesion, meaning, and transformation.” Ryan Maher, MA, LMCH, Presenter

We are very excited to welcome Caitlin Lawler, LPC! Caitlin is an EMDR-trained Licensed Professional Counselor who works with adults who have experienced childhood abuse, domestic violence, sexual violence, and attachment or relational trauma.

Many of Caitlin’s clients arrive to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected as they try to make sense of past or ongoing traumatic experiences.
Trauma often affects not only emotional well-being but also the body, showing up as anxiety, chronic tension, difficulty sleeping, or a persistent sense of unease. Caitlin offers a steady, compassionate space where clients can explore their experiences at a pace that feels safe, collaborative, and empowering.

Her trauma-focused work is grounded primarily in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), supported by a strong attachment-based lens and integration of Internal Family Systems (IFS)–informed approaches. She also incorporates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, grounding techniques, somatic practices, and cognitive coping strategies. Treatment is always tailored to each client’s history, strengths, and goals, allowing therapy to be both structured and responsive.

Caitlin is open for referrals! www.watchhilltherapy.com/caitlin-lawler
