If you've experience this, you're not crazy.

Not all GLP1 side effects are gastrointestinal. That's because GLP1 medications don't just work in your gut, they also work in your brain, especially in the areas tied to dopamine and reward

Two often overlooked, interesting side effects are anhedonia and dysesthesia.

✨Anhedonia is that numb, "blah" feeling. You're not depressed or necessarily sad, you just don't feel excited about things that normally bring you joy.

A scientist whose work in the 1970s helped pioneer modern GLP1 medications like Ozempic has even expressed concern that long-term use may be difficult, because "Once you've been on this for a year or two, life is so miserably boring that you can't stand it any longer and you have to go back to your old life." -Professor Jens Juul Holst

✨Dysesthesia refers to abnormal nerve sensations that shouldn't be there, like burning, tingling, pins-and-needles, or crawling sensations.

Have you experienced either of these, or any other unexpected side effects?👇

What excites doctors most in chronic disease management isn’t what you think🫢💊🩺

It’s not fair, but it’s true (at least on average in clinical trials). Metabolic disease impacts your entire body💥🌪️⚡️

Keratosis pilaris aka “chicken skin” or “strawberry skin” is a super common skin condition where keratin (a normal skin protein) plugs hair follicles, creating that rough, bumpy texture.

KP often worsens with dry skin, winter weather, hot showers, and friction.

There’s no cure, but we do have tools to improve texture and redness. Think consistent moisturizing and gentle chemical exfoliation—look for lotions with lactic acid, urea, or salicylic acid.

Talk with your doctor about the approach that’s right for your skin 🤍

Hot take: We’re desperate for cancer cures…
but too often still hesitant about a vaccine that prevents it. This hurts my P*P heart 💔

What questions do you have about the HPV vaccine!?

Have you noticed this too? This is a sentiment I hear all the time. Same medication. Different diagnosis. Very different reactions 👀

We didn’t suddenly discover side effects. If you are someone saying this, consider the possibility that you have weight bias. Concern for safety is important, but if that concern is selective then it may be worth looking inward. Obesity care deserves the same respect as any other chronic disease

Goodbye BMI 👋
Hello “Body Roundness Index”?!

BMI is a poor way to measure body composition and visceral fat

BRI is a proposed replacement health indicator for BMI. It would also be a cheap and easy test to have done in a setting such as a doctor’s office, similar to BMI.

I do think this is better in the sense that it takes into account where fat is stored. More abdominal fat usually means there is more visceral fat (fat in and around our organs) which is more dangerous for our health than subcutaneous fat (the fat we store under our skin.

One study even suggests that BRI may help to predict risk of cardiovascular disease, even when other health factors are not considered.

I don’t like the name.
BRI still has pitfalls and is no where near as good as a DEXA. But this could be a step in the right direction.
