Update on Melanie: On October 22, Melanie received a call that she was primary recipient for a liver donation from a DCD donor if the donor liver passed all necessary requirements. Hopes were high but we remained cautiously optimistic. However, the donor liver was unable to be used and we were left feeling disappointed but hopeful that maybe next time would be the time.
At the end of October, she developed a urinary tract infection, she was unable to keep food or fluids down and became dehydrated, and was admitted to Northwestern in Chicago for treatment October 28-31. She has not had any further trouble with keeping food and fluids down since!
Routine Testing that she performs every six months was coming up in November but the MRI of the abdomen was performed while she was in the hospital. The doctors have monitored precancerous cyst on her pancreas and they were stable; however, they found a small lesion on her liver, and there is concern of cancer. A more definitive MRI is scheduled for December 9. She will see her doctor that day as well. They said if it was cancerous and contained, that would not affect receiving a liver transplant.
She went November 11 and did other routine testing. This picture is from that trip. We choose to smile as we push down fear. We always try to have fun times, laughter, and always…always…love!❤️
