OCD isn’t about being organized.

It’s about being trapped in a cycle you didn’t choose.

Dr. Barbara Benton explains that real OCD is often misunderstood reduced to phrases like “I’m so OCD,” when in reality, it’s a serious and distressing condition.

OCD is driven by intrusive thoughts that won’t let go.
And compulsions that feel necessary just to get relief.

It’s not preference.
It’s pressure.

A constant loop of:
“What if…”
followed by “I need to fix this.”

But this cycle is treatable.

With the right support, the brain can learn that thoughts are not threats and that relief doesn’t have to come from rituals.

You asked, we answered ✈️

Ever wonder why flying makes you feel like you can’t trust your own safety? Anxiety can make your brain focus on worst-case scenarios—even when flying is statistically safe. Understanding what’s really happening can help you feel more in control at 35,000 feet. 💛

03/26/2026

You asked, we answered ✈️

Fear of flying can show up later in life—even if it was never there before. As we get older, our awareness of risk, need for control, and past experiences can all play a role.

The good news? You can learn how to respond to the fear differently—and still fly with confidence. 💛

You asked, we answered ✈️

When fear of flying starts shrinking your world, it’s time to gently push back. Avoidance may feel safe—but it keeps the fear in control.

Start small. Build confidence. Learn what’s anxiety vs. actual danger. And remember: you don’t have to feel fearless to still get on the plane. 💛

POV: Dr. Kissen getting (a bit?) too excited about ’s new therapy fidgets and toys 😅

These are designed to help kids actually get what anxiety is doing in their brain… and learn how to respond to it in a way that builds confidence instead of avoidance.

Think: hands-on, visual, and a little bit fun (because therapy doesn’t have to feel so serious all the time).

If you’re a parent, therapist, or just someone who wants better tools for anxiety, you’ll want to see these.

You asked, we answered ✈️

Fear of flying isn’t always about the plane—it can be about feeling trapped. Understanding the root of your anxiety helps you respond to it in a way that actually works.

Even if that feeling shows up, you can still take the flight. 💛

You asked, we answered ✈️

Anxiety can feel scary—but scary doesn’t always mean unsafe. Knowing the difference between panic symptoms and a real medical emergency can help you feel more in control when you fly.

Even if anxiety shows up, you can still move forward with confidence. 💛

Fear of flying isn’t always about the plane crashing.

Often, it’s about something deeper.

Feeling trapped.
Losing control.
Imagining worst-case scenarios at 30,000 feet.

Fear of flying is rarely one single fear.

It’s a mix of physical sensations, catastrophic thoughts, and uncertainty that your brain interprets as danger.

That doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you.
It means your brain is doing what it was designed to do, trying to keep you safe.

And when anxiety learns to associate flying with danger, it reacts automatically.

If socializing suddenly feels harder than it used to, there’s a reason.

Modern life gives us fewer reps of real-life interaction.
Less small talk. Less spontaneous conversation. Less practice.

Here’s what’s happening:

1️⃣ Your social muscles may be out of practice.
Just like physical fitness, social confidence grows with repetition.

2️⃣ Your daily life likely includes fewer in-person interactions.
Food delivery, remote work, texting, and apps have quietly reduced everyday social exposure.

3️⃣ That means your brain gets fewer “safe” social reps.
Without practice, initiating conversation can start to feel higher stakes.

4️⃣ Soft socializing helps rebuild those reps.
Structured events, guided conversations, and hobby meetups lower the pressure of figuring out what to say.

5️⃣ Lower pressure = less threat to your nervous system.
When your brain perceives less social risk, it becomes easier to connect naturally.

Soft socializing isn’t about lowering the bar forever.
It’s about rebuilding confidence gradually.

Social comfort is a skill.
And like any skill, it grows with practice.

How We Work

Our mission is to decrease the pain and suffering associated with untreated anxiety disorders.

We offer CBT based treatment to children, adolescents and adults with a focus on anxiety and stress-related disorders, including OCD, PTSD, panic disorder, agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, specific phobias, separation anxiety disorder, compulsive skin picking, and trichotillomania. We apply the principles of evidence-based treatments, while at the same time treating the whole person, with deep respect for the human spirit and the challenges we all face on our journey through life. We strive to make our clients their own anxiety coaches and to keep treatment as short-term as possible. There is nothing we appreciate more than when clients arrive at a place where they they no longer need external assistance to manage their anxiety symptoms. We often states to our clients, “We strive to become unnecessary in your life.”

Light on Anxiety CBT Treatment Centers offer accessible, effective, practical treatment for anxiety and related disorders. We strive to quickly get you in and out and back to your life.
