What Is Alternate Nostril Breathing?

A yogic pranayama technique that balances the left and right sides of the nervous system.

It’s calming, grounding, and excellent for reducing stress, improving focus, and preparing for meditation. We practiced it as our meditation after the asana practice.

In my first yoga teacher training in 2011, I learned about the six kriyas of Hatha yoga.

There are six kriyas & their purpose is to remove impurities, flush out toxins & prepare the body for the flow of vital energy or ‘Prana’.

The one I’m discussing above (⬆️) is Jala Neti, or nasal cleansing. I know what you’re thinking, as I did to, “I’m not sticking water into my nose!”

Truth be told, once I started consistently using the Neti, I no longer needed to rely on addictive nasal sprays!

Other benefits can include ✨

Balances the Nervous System
• Stimulates parasympathetic response → calm, grounded feeling
• Often reported to reduce stress, anxiety, and mental fog

Enhances Mental Clarity and Focus
• Clears the head literally and energetically
