Last week our CEO, Steven Airhart, made a big announcement on the hospital intercom: after months of planning, training and testing, our new electronic medical record (EMR) system officially launched! 🎉

It's been a special week here at Hartgrove, with the official celebration lasting all week long. Huge thanks to all the staff and everyone else that helped make it possible!

📅 Coming up TOMORROW: Join us and Mental Health America of Illinois for Coffee ☕, Conversation 🗣️ & CEUs!

Eating disorders are complex, often misunderstood mental health conditions that affect individuals across all ages, genders and backgrounds.

Maria Rago, Ph.D., President of ANAD - National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, will lead the March 13 session, where you’ll earn 1.5 CEU credits and learn to:

✅ Identify major eating disorder diagnoses such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED), and ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) and understand where they fall on the continuum.
✅ Recognize key signs, symptoms and risk factors associated with eating disorders.
✅ Understand how eating disorders commonly coexist with other mental health conditions (e.g., anxiety, depression, OCD, substance use) and the implications for assessment and treatment.
✅ Discuss basic approaches to treatment and recovery including evidence-based strategies and the potential for positive outcomes with appropriate intervention.

Let's do another Social Work Month shout-out for one of our Schoolhouse Counseling Center Clinical Therapists, Becky Carlson, MSW, LSW! ✨

She's a licensed social worker who knows that supporting students means supporting their families, too. We care a lot about looking at the whole picture when it comes to treatment.

Beyond student therapy, our Schoolhouse Counseling Center therapists also:
📞 Regularly check in with parents.
👉 Help families navigate stress, conflict and change.
🏠 Offer guidance and skills that make life at home more manageable.
🤝 Collaborate with teachers, counselors and community supports.

💬 "I'm always honored when patients share their story with me, and I find it rewarding to see students and their family members grow."

Shouting out this powerhouse duo for Social Work Month! 💪🙌

Bonn Christian Cruz, manager of social services, and his supervisor, Sabrina Perrino, director of clinical services, serve as Hartgrove's dynamic 1-2 combo leading our team of social workers as they help patients and families navigate the toughest moments. Our social workers are heavily involved from admission to discharge and beyond.

Here's what Sabrina said about her team: 💬 "We care about being the best versions of ourselves to help our patients. My colleagues really buy into the work we do, and we believe in our patients' success." 🎯

Bonn and Sabrina want people to know that having someone to listen without fear of judgment can be very beneficial to your well-being. Things can get better, and you don’t have to do it alone!

Lots to celebrate around Hartgrove Behavioral Health System! Give it up to Tash'e Fults, medical records technician, for passing the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) exam! 👏

As an RHIT, Tash'e ensures the quality, security and accuracy of patient medical records. The certification is about the foundation of health information management (HIM), and it opens her up to more opportunities like data analytics, coding and leadership roles.

💬 "It felt really good to pass the exam, especially because I was so nervous going into it. Getting the certification makes me feel more confident in the work I'm doing and it's symbolic of my skills in the field."

Tash'e said the exam wasn't as bad as she thought it would be, but that's because she studied hard and took as many practice exams as she could. Her advice to others pursuing RHIT certification: don't give up, give yourself enough time to study and try to network.

Time to shine the Social Work Month spotlight on one of our Schoolhouse Counseling Center Clinical Therapists, Veronica Hiltscher! ✨

She's a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) who supports students through some of their toughest moments: 💬 "As a therapist, I love talking with children. When I get to know a student and see things from their perspective, I can be a great help to them." 🎯

School‑based social work connects families to resources, supports parents navigating challenges and gives kids a safe place to talk through what’s going on in their lives. It makes a huge difference in how kids and teens show up at school and at home.

Here's to all the social workers doing this important, often behind‑the‑scenes work every day. 👏 We care, and we appreciate you.

👏 Shout-out to James White, an incredible mental health specialist (MHS) and Hartgrove's standout star of February! ✨

James is one of those rare people who can walk onto a unit and instantly make things feel calmer and more connected. Peers trust him, supervisors rave about him and our patients consistently describe him as patient, kind and genuinely easy to talk to.

He jumps in to help without being asked, always supporting his coworkers and bringing the perfect energy to every shift.

We’re excited to see where his career grows from here, and we’re seriously lucky to have James on our team!

The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at Hartgrove Behavioral Health System supports kids and teens with structured care, meaningful connection and skills that last well beyond treatment.

Our highly experienced team specializes in therapy focused on conflict resolution, anger management, emotion regulation and all the real‑life tools young people need to navigate tough moments.

We care 💙, and that's why we meet each child where they are with a patient-centered approach and a trauma‑informed culture. We use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help kids understand how thoughts, feelings and behaviors connect, and rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) to support them in challenging unhelpful beliefs and building healthier coping strategies.

Every patient receives a personalized treatment plan, created with their individual needs in mind. Services include individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, medication management and follow‑up care to support smooth transitions.

We also make sure families feel confident and connected throughout the process 🤝. Learn more about our PHP here: https://bit.ly/403iV1r.

What is PHP? Just like it sounds, patients are only partially hospitalized. The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is an intensive five-day treatment program serving children and adolescents ages 5 through 17 who are experiencing emotional or behavioral problems.
