On March 22, we invite you to celebrate the rebirth, survival, and advocacy of Yolanda Carter.

Ten years ago, Yolanda survived a brutal domestic violence attack that nearly took her life. Today, she stands as a powerful voice for survivors and a symbol of resilience and healing.

Her journey reflects a reality that affects millions.
1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men experience severe physical violence from an intimate partner. Nearly 20 people every minute are abused by an intimate partner in the United States.

In Chicago, domestic violence accounts for 26 percent of all violent crime. In 2024, the city experienced 130 days with no available beds in domestic violence shelters.

Through her nonprofit Beautifully Scarred and her book One Eyewitness, Yolanda continues to advocate for survivors and create pathways to hope and healing.

Leo High School is hosting a “Love Yourself” Vendor Market, bringing together local vendors, creatives, and wellness advocates for a day focused on self-care, community, and love.
