Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common condition that affects how the digestive system functions. While it doesn’t cause permanent damage, it can lead to symptoms like abdominal discomfort, bloating, and changes in bowel habits.
For many people, symptoms come and go and may be influenced by factors such as diet, stress, or routine changes.

During IBS Awareness Month, it’s a reminder that ongoing or disruptive digestive symptoms are worth paying attention to. A conversation with a healthcare provider can help identify possible causes and next steps.

Today on World Autism Awareness Day, we recognize the importance of understanding, inclusion, and support for individuals on the autism spectrum.

💜March 26 is Purple Day, a global effort to raise awareness about epilepsy and seizure disorders.💜

Knowing how to respond if someone has a seizure can help keep them safe and reduce panic in the moment. Most seizures resolve on their own within a few minutes, but staying calm and protecting the person from injury is important.
Learning basic seizure first aid helps create more informed and supportive communities.

If you or someone you know experiences seizures or unexplained episodes, medical evaluation can help determine the cause and appropriate care.
The care team at Thorek Memorial Hospital is here to support neurological health and overall well-being.

Colorectal cancer screening saves lives — and timing matters.
Most adults at average risk should begin screening at age 45. If you have a family history or other risk factors, your provider may recommend starting earlier.
Because early stages often have no symptoms, screening plays a key role in prevention and early detection.

If you’re unsure whether you’re due for a screening, a quick check-in with your physician can help clarify your next steps.

Spring is around the corner — and so is allergy season.
Seasonal allergies, often triggered by pollen from trees, grass, and weeds, can cause symptoms like sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, and fatigue. In Chicago, tree pollen typically begins appearing in early spring and can peak in April and May. 🤧🌸

Taking simple steps early — like monitoring pollen levels, limiting exposure, and discussing treatment options with a healthcare provider — can help manage symptoms throughout the season.

If seasonal allergies are interfering with daily life, a healthcare provider can help identify triggers and treatment options.

Your kidneys play an important role in keeping your body balanced and functioning properly. These small organs filter waste from the blood, regulate fluids and minerals, help control blood pressure, and support red blood cell production.

During National Kidney Month, it’s a good reminder that healthy habits — including managing blood pressure, staying hydrated, and maintaining overall wellness — can help support kidney health.

If you have questions about kidney health or risk factors such as high blood pressure or diabetes, a conversation with a healthcare provider can help guide the next steps.
