You don’t get sober for champagne moments.
You get sober for hospital rooms.
For car crashes.
For the quiet mornings after heartbreak.
My dog helped me get sober.
It started with
“I just want to drink wine and pet my dog.”
Then it became walking instead of pouring.
Breathing through cravings beside him.
Crying into his fur.
Letting him witness the messy middle.
Eventually it became coffee in the morning.
Journaling instead of numbing.
Choosing presence over escape.
This weekend I faced both an accident and saying goodbye to him.
Sobriety didn’t make it easy.
But it gave me my full self inside the pain.
No hangover layered on grief.
No shame stacked on loss.
Just heartbreak.
Just love.
Just being here.
If you’re sober-curious, newly sober, or quietly struggling — please know this:
You don’t get sober just for celebrations.
You get sober for the days that knock the wind out of you.
And if you need support, I offer a private podcast.
No fixing. No pressure. Just a safe space to listen.
You don’t have to carry this alone. 🤍

Now more than ever, I’m leaning into my anchors.
Not to escape what’s happening around us,
but to stay rooted enough to meet it with compassion.
When things feel chaotic, our nervous systems look for safety.
And safety is created through rhythm, support, and community.
That’s why we’re completing our our first 30 of 90 days together inside the Insider Community — a space to gently build anchors that support your real life.
This isn’t about fixing yourself.
It’s about remembering you’re not alone.
When we heal ourselves, we participate in healing the world.

I sat in a sauna with 20 women last week
and not one of us talked about calories or alcohol.
Some talked about navigating ADHD.
Others discussed their choice to be childless.
I learned that Most of us want to detox from our phones, and toxic products.
So many of us desire doing less,
And sleeping more.
We talked about taking care of ourselves like it actually matters. We shared resources, made introductions and connections, shared events, books, and podcasts that can support our goals. I left feeling uplifted, appreciated, and understood.
That’s community.
And that’s exactly what we’re building at my next Galentine’s Gathering💖
Alcohol-free wine tasting and exploration. Real connection. No pretending.
If you’ve been craving this kind of room, please come sit with us.

People drinking less hurts no one.
People being pressured to drink when they’re trying not to hurts everyone.

I’ve been on vacation and keep seeing messaging about how “exhausting” Dry January is for others that have to keep up the slack (as a joke).

The media is full of inaccurate and dangerous messaging.
Here are just a few examples.

TIME Why You Should Skip Dry January
The New York Times Dry January is Driving Me To Drink
San Francisco Chronicle Dry January Is Obscuring the Reality of How America Drinks
Mehmet Oz “Alcohol is a social lubricant that brings people together.”
GQ Magazine Why my 2026 Resolution is to Start Drinking Again

Here’s the truth:
Choosing not to drink isn’t an inconvenience; it’s often courage.
Stop making it harder for people who are trying to quit. 🗣️

I wrote more about this, and why the backlash against Dry January is so harmful, on the blog.

Curious—have you noticed this pressure too? Or have you experienced it yourself?
