Growth can feel overwhelming when you try to see the whole path at once.

But most of the time, it’s not about having everything figured out — it’s about staying with the next step in front of you.

Small, steady steps tend to create the kind of change that actually lasts.

Parenting isn’t about being calm, cool, and collected all the time.

It’s about something much more real:
ruptures and repairs.

We all miss things. We all have moments where we react in ways we wish we hadn’t. What matters most isn’t avoiding those moments entirely — it’s being able to recognize them, name them, and come back to reconnect.

That’s where a lot of the growth happens.

Every emotion carries information.

The ones we tend to avoid often have the clearest messages — about what we need, what matters to us, and where boundaries might be needed.

Sometimes clarity doesn’t come from figuring things out… but from slowing down enough to listen.

Movement can be a simple way to reconnect with yourself.

Whether it’s something like the Shamrock Shuffle, a walk by the lake, or just a few minutes of stretching — small moments of movement can support your nervous system and overall wellbeing.

It doesn’t have to be perfect or structured. Sometimes it’s just about taking a step and noticing how you feel.

When therapy isn’t cutting it… this is what I reach for:

Music
Reconnecting with my inner child
Creating
Going out to eat (even when I have food at home)

I’m curious what’s on your list 👀

Our team… just a little earlier on 🥹

There’s something kind of special about seeing people before all the training, experience, and life in between.

Same people — just a little smaller.

Strong feelings toward your therapist can feel confusing — sometimes even uncomfortable or overwhelming.

But these experiences are often part of the work.

The therapeutic relationship can bring up earlier attachment patterns — ways of relating that were shaped long before therapy. When these patterns surface, they create an opportunity to understand them, work with them, and move beyond the limitations they may have created.

What comes up in your relationship with your therapist isn’t something to push away. It can be something meaningful to explore.

If this resonates, we created a course inside the Balanced Awakening Collective:

Understanding Attachment to Your Therapist
A 4-module guide to help you make sense of strong feelings in therapy, understand where they come from, and navigate them with more clarity and steadiness.

Therapy clients — we’re curious:

What’s one comfort item you wish every therapist had in their office?

Whether it’s something cozy, grounding, or just a small detail that helps you feel more at ease, we’d love to hear what makes a space feel supportive to you.

At Balanced Awakening, we’re always thinking about how to create spaces that feel safe, comfortable, and human.

Growth rarely happens all at once.

More often, it happens through small choices, quiet moments of awareness, and tiny shifts in how we respond to ourselves and the world around us.
Over time, those small shifts can lead to meaningful change.

Small shifts create big change.

What’s one small shift you’re working on right now?

Have you heard of the Health Triangle?

The Health Triangle is a simple tool used in therapy to think about wellbeing across three areas of life: mental, physical, and social health.
When we’re over- or under-stimulated in one of these areas, our overall sense of balance can be affected.

One way to explore this for yourself is by drawing your own triangle and listing small activities that support each side — including options that work on lower-energy days.

The goal isn’t perfection, but creating small, sustainable ways to support your wellbeing.

What clients think therapists are doing between sessions:
writing notes.

What’s actually happening sometimes:
opening a window for fresh air, lying down for a minute, playing with fidget toys, and resetting before the next session.

Therapists are human too, and those small moments of pause help us stay grounded and present for the work.

“I am enough, just the way I am.”

This movement piece by Isa Mulcahy, LCPC — set to “Breath” by Joy Soul — reflects the heart of embodied healing: worth that isn’t earned, produced, or perfected.

With flaws.
With insecurities.
With strengths, traumas, triumphs.
Still worthy.

At Balanced Awakening, we believe healing includes the body. Through somatic and relational therapy, Isa supports clients in reconnecting with their inherent enoughness — not despite their story, but including it.

Isa is currently accepting new clients in Chicago.
