After experiencing inconsistent results with CPAP, Jay began exploring Inspire therapy—a solution designed to provide more consistent, effortless sleep. With Inspire, he no longer needed to worry about mask fit or nightly setup. He could simply turn it on, go to sleep, and wake up feeling refreshed and energized.

Like many patients who have struggled with poor sleep for years, Jay was initially skeptical that any treatment could make a real difference. Today, however, he continues to experience the benefits. Even on busy days, he notices the energy and alertness that come from a truly restful night—something that felt impossible for years. For Jay, Inspire has transformed sleep from a nightly challenge into a reliable foundation for daily life.

Initially, CPAP therapy worked well for Jay. He experienced some nights of restorative sleep and felt the benefits, noticing for the first time in years what it was like to be fully awake and alert during the day.

However, like many patients, Jay encountered challenges with mask fit and comfort. Because he doesn’t sleep in one fixed position, the mask would occasionally slip or become tangled, sometimes making noise and interrupting his sleep. While CPAP gave him a glimpse of what good sleep could feel like, it wasn’t consistent night after night, highlighting the need for a treatment plan tailored to his lifestyle and sleep habits.

When Jay first came to Chicago ENT, he thought his breathing issues were simply affecting his sleep. During his visit, our team recommended a sleep study, which revealed that Jay had sleep apnea. The first-line treatment for sleep apnea is typically a CPAP machine. While Jay was hopeful it would help, he was understandably unsure if it would work for him.

During the sleep study, he was comfortably monitored with specialized devices, allowing us to gather accurate data on his sleep patterns. The results showed that Jay stopped breathing nearly 40 times per hour—a clear indication that treatment was necessary. He began using a CPAP machine for about a year, and while he experienced some challenges, this eventually led to considering Inspire therapy.

Our team at Chicago ENT worked closely with Jay every step of the way, helping him identify the treatment options that would give him better, more restful sleep.

Chronic sinus infections often follow a pattern: swelling closes off the sinuses, infections return, and antibiotics become a cycle that never quite solves the problem.

In the past, the only option for many patients was sinus surgery under general anesthesia with significant recovery time. But technology has evolved.

With balloon sinuplasty, we can open the sinuses and restore healthy airflow with a simple in-office procedure. Just local numbing, similar to a dental visit. No general anesthesia. No downtime. Many patients return to work the same day.

For people who have dealt with repeated infections, this can be a meaningful shift toward lasting relief.

We perform balloon sinuplasty here at Chicago ENT every day, with treatment plans tailored to your symptoms, anatomy, and comfort.

Jay came to Chicago ENT thinking he was just dealing with allergies and sinus problems. During his initial visit, Dr. Friedman asked him a simple question: ‘How’s your sleep?’

That question made Jay realize he hadn’t been sleeping well for years. What started as a routine allergy check turned into a full evaluation for sleep apnea.

Thanks to the team at Chicago ENT, Jay was able to uncover the root of his sleep struggles and begin a treatment plan that would finally help him get the rest he had been missing for so long.

A lump in the neck should never be ignored.

At Chicago ENT, we care for many patients with head and neck cancer, and one of the earliest signs is often a neck mass: something you feel when you swallow, or something you can feel just by touch. It doesn’t always mean something serious, but it does mean it should be evaluated promptly.

When you come to Chicago ENT, we can assess everything in one visit. That includes a thorough exam, imaging when needed, and tissue sampling to understand what’s really going on. And when something is caught early, treatment outcomes are significantly better.

So if you notice a new lump or change in your neck, even if you’re not sure it’s a problem, it’s worth getting checked. Peace of mind matters, and early answers matter even more.

CPAP isn’t your only option.

At Chicago ENT, Medical Director and Board-Certified Otolaryngologist Michael Friedman, MD, explains that sleep apnea testing and treatment have never been simpler — and we’re here to help you sleep better.

Head and neck cancers don’t always look like what people expect.

While smoking and alcohol are well-known risk factors, we’re seeing more cases in younger, otherwise healthy individuals who have never smoked. In many of these cases, the underlying cause is HPV. These cancers often start as small, benign papillomas in the mouth or throat before developing into something more serious.

There isn’t a standard screening test for head and neck cancer. But that doesn’t mean early detection isn’t possible.

At Chicago ENT, we use in-office technology to examine the mouth, throat, and nasal passages during a simple visit. If something is concerning, we address it early, when treatment can be most effective. And if everything is normal, we offer peace of mind.

If you notice a persistent spot, sore, or change in your mouth or tongue, it’s worth getting checked. Your health is too important to wait and wonder.

Restful sleep should evolve with you.

At Chicago ENT, Medical Director and Board-Certified Otolaryngologist Michael Friedman, MD, explains that sleep issues aren’t always obvious, especially in women. Many don’t snore loudly or disturb their partner, yet still wake up tired, unrefreshed, or struggling with fatigue.

Often, these symptoms point to undiagnosed sleep apnea or airway issues conditions that can be treated with modern, effective options, including non-invasive therapies and new medication-based treatments.

We look beyond the surface, assessing breathing, nasal health, and sleep quality to create solutions that help you feel your best, day after day.

That’s what makes thoughtful ENT care both a science and an art.

When the heat kicks on in Chicago, the air gets dry fast. And your nose feels it first.

Dry indoor air can irritate the nasal lining, leading to crusting, discomfort, nosebleeds, and even making sinus infections more likely. The good news is that a few simple at-home adjustments can make a big difference.

Adding moisture back into your environment helps protect your nasal passages. A bedroom humidifier or an over-the-counter nasal moisturizing spray can support the natural function of your nose and keep things balanced through the colder months.

Small changes, big relief.

Your ears and nose are more connected than most people realize.

That feeling of pressure or fullness in your ears isn’t just “ear trouble” on its own. It’s often linked to the eustachian tube, the pathway that connects your ear to your nose. When that system isn’t working properly, you feel it every day.

At Chicago ENT, we evaluate both together. In one visit, our ENT specialists and audiology team can assess what’s happening, confirm the diagnosis, and walk you through treatment options that align with your needs and lifestyle. It’s a comprehensive approach designed for clarity, efficiency, and confidence in your care.

Because when your systems are connected, your care should be too.
