Chicago Pediatric Therapy & Wellness Center provides physical, occupational, speech and Behavior therapy services in the clinic, school, and teletherapy setting as well as in the home through the Early Intervention Program. We work with children of all ages, from premature infants to young adults. Our therapists work in partnership with families to establish meaningful goals and provide interventions that are developmentally appropriate in a child-friendly environment. Communication with the child, parents, and specialists on the team is the cornerstone of our intervention and treatment philosophies. We have multiple social groups and classes for all ages that meet on a weekly or twice weekly basis. We strive to provide a variety of services for children and their caregivers to serve as a resource for families in the community. These groups include developmental play groups, social skills groups, parent support groups and motor skills groups. Black history month continues and we’re honored to keep recognizing Black therapists whose work makes a lasting impact across our organization. Today we celebrate these 5 fantastic teammates!

❤️ Sandra - She is a truly kind and dependable member of our team who brings so much care and intention into everything she does. She quietly goes above and beyond to keep our clinic clean, organized, and running seamlessly. Sandra plays a huge role in creating such a welcoming environment.

🖤 Shamiah - As one of our newest team members, she has brought creativity into our drama room and science activities while remaining open to feedback and focused on building strong relationships with students.
Miah’s friendliness, compassion, and positive energy are felt throughout the Academy!

🤍 Steven - We truly love working alongside Superstar Steven! He has a natural way of meeting each child exactly where they’re at, bringing calm energy, steady support, and so much patience into every session. He’s thoughtful in his approach and always shows up ready to support, encourage, and celebrate progress — BIG or small.

💛 Lindsay - She brings smiles, laughter, and a calm, positive presence to the clinic each day, along with incredible dedication, heart, and hustle. Lindsay is hardworking, collaborative, and deeply caring toward the clients and families she supports. You can truly feel her passion in everything she does.

What’s Schroth? It is a research-backed, proven treatment to help children, teens, and adults with scoliosis. Schroth Therapy is a hands-on, patient-driven method that aims to improve scoliosis outcomes using the patient’s own muscles and body.

It's time to celebrate and uplift the Black therapists who are an essential part of our community. The work our Black therapists do goes far beyond job titles or productivity. It shows up in moments of connection with clients, advocacy for families, leadership among peers, and the quiet, everyday ways they help shape a more inclusive and supportive environment.

❤️ Lauren - She has been working at CPTWC for 5 and a half years, has been an SLP for 10 years, and is a certified lactation counselor (CLC) for 4 years. She consistently goes above and beyond for her clients, bringing compassion, expertise, and intention into everything she does.

💚 Subhana - She consistently brings creative, out-of-the-box thinking to her work, helping her build meaningful connections with both peers and clients. Subhana is always willing to offer support; she is also not afraid to ask for support when needed. Making her a wonderful team player!

🖤 Willow - As a Patient Advocate, she consistently brings positivity and warmth to everyone she greets. She’s always ready to lend a helping hand and does so with a smile that truly brightens the room. Willow carries such joyful energy wherever she goes and is known for being kind, supportive, and funny.

February is Black History Month and our staff is taking time to honor and celebrate and ! Throughout the month, we will highlight important historical figures from the pediatrics and medical field from outside and inside our building. These pioneers broke barriers, advanced treatments for children's diseases, advocated for equitable care, and worked hard to help children everyday!

Today, we highlight, Alexa Irene Canady! She is the first Black woman neurosurgeon in the United States. She was certified in 1981! She became chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Children's Hospital of Michigan, where she treated children with complex conditions like brain tumors, head trauma, and congenital anomalies for decades. Her patient-centered approach and mentorship of women/minorities in medicine made her a role model in pediatric surgical care!

Let’s make this month a time of learning, recognition, and appreciation for these leaders and changemakers in pediatrics. Stay tuned for more spotlights and stories throughout February!
