We are so excited to showcase the new “J. Michael and Karen Woollen Center for Art, Music & Media” at The Selfhelp Home! This room has been redesigned to create a warm, welcoming space for the music therapy program. The room is now equipped with a new work space, paint, storage, carpet, curtains, and instruments. Grace Gimpel, LPC, ATR-P designed the beautiful mural and worked together with the residents at Selfhelp to make it come to life.

We are grateful for the generosity and support of the donors who made this remodel possible! The residents and our music therapists serving The Selfhelp Home love the space that has been created to foster the benefits of music therapy!

She made it through her first week! Our new intern Madelynn Miller is from the southwest suburbs of Chicago and is completing her internship as a student from Belmont University. While growing up playing piano and singing, her primary instrument is classical percussion. In a music therapy setting, Madelynn has worked with older adults, adolescents with mental health diagnosis, and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Madelynn’s approach to music therapy focuses on whole-person care, ensuring that all aspects of life are considered for each individual. She is excited and honored to be a part of individuals’ lives in a musical way.

Our Director Becky and her husband are board members of Northwest Compass, Inc., a wonderful non-profit social service organization that helps people in our community with food and housing insecurity, and has a special program for homeless youth.
