Music is a universal language that brings together people from vastly different backgrounds. It is a tool that strengthens bonds between individuals and within communities.

CCHE is so grateful that Harrison Copeland, a Clinical Research Assistant at Rush University Medical Center, made this playlist to showcase songs that revolve around ideas of belonging and Chicago. Many of these songs are about Chicago itself and/or were recorded by famous Chicago artists, but others are about belonging in a more general sense.

Harrison's hope for listeners of this playlist is that a similar message can be found throughout all these songs despite the widely different musical genres and backgrounds of each recording artist.

Stay tuned for an upcoming project centered around belonging and music.

We were so excited to celebrate ten years at the Center for Community Health Equity this fall. Upon reflecting upon this moment in time and the work that has gotten this organization to this place, we are honored to work alongside so many dedicated individuals and organizations who are committed to healthy and equitable communities across Chicagoland.

As we look forward to another ten years of working collaboratively and growing our partnerships with Rush and DePaul, as well as other community groups, we know there is work to be done. There are still wide gaps in life expectancy and health outcomes that are simply reflective of where an individual or a family lives and puts down their roots. There is more research to be done about the idea of belonging and syndemics. We strive to create unique solutions to public health issues, while centering marginalized population’s voices at the center of those conversations. We believe that communication and collaboration are critical pieces of moving towards a healthier and more equitable place for all Chicagoans to live and grow.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey over the past ten years and who have dedicated their time to ensuring that all of Chicago has a stake in their community!

This past Tuesday we were so excited to celebrate 10 years of working towards community health and equity across the Chicagoland area. We are so grateful to those individuals and community partners who have been with us since the beginning and are so excited to welcome new faces in our journey towards creating a healthier and more equitable Chicago (and beyond). We truly couldn't do this hard work without all of our amazing supporters and partners!

Please stay tuned for more photos and reflections from ten years of CCHE in the next few weeks.

The DePaul University Pediatric Coping, Health, and Illness Lab (CHILL) is conducting a research study to learn more about the experiences of Black adolescents and young adults with pain in Chicago, especially about how they manage their pain, and pain management resources that they would like to have access to.

They are conducting interviews that can be completed remotely, with each interview lasting between 30 and 45 minutes. After completing the interview, participants will earn a $50 electronic Visa gift card. Please join us on October 23rd and 24th for the Complex Diplomacy in Turbulent Times conference presented by DePaul's Grace School of Applied Diplomacy.

The Grace School of Applied Diplomacy’s sixth annual international conference explores scholarship on how diplomacy can promote new thinking in the context of current complexities such as managing the digital ecosystem, protecting the vulnerable in armed conflict, recovering “soft power” approaches in the face of “hard” and “sharp” power challenges, reconciling the legacies and trends in diplomatic training, weighing the effectiveness of formal (the UN) vs. informal (G20, BRICS+) international organizations, strengthening democratic norms through authentic governmental engagement with home publics about diplomacy, and respecting individual rights and dignity.

Our summer intern Rachel Shalit helped CCHE complete our health equity review of articles for 2021.

She also completed posters that correlated to some of the health equity review articles from 2021. In the below poster, she focused on the article "Depression, Anxiety, and Alcohol Use Among LGBTQ+ People During COVID-19." Findings from the cross-sectional survey found that individuals in the LGBTQ+ community had higher mental health distress during the pandemic. Check out her poster below to learn more.

We want to highlight the work of some of our affiliate faculty in their published opinion piece titled: "Health researchers: Flu cases are unnecessarily on the rise. Policy failures are to blame." This opinion piece was published jointly by authors Julia Lippert, Maureen R. Benjamins, Joanna Buscemi and Abigail Silva.

During such a critical time in public health in our country, it is important to highlight what can be done on a local and federal level through policy work to encourage educated and healthy communities.
