JAMA Cardiology marks its 10th anniversary with a leadership transition that builds on a decade of extraordinary growth.

Today we welcome Barbara Casadei, MD, DPhil, from the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, as Editor in Chief. An internationally recognized clinician‑scientist, Dr Casadei brings extensive experience in global cardiovascular research.

In her inaugural Editorial, Dr Casadei outlines a vision focused on:

📌 Make JAMA Cardiology a global meeting place, fostering engagement and contributions from a diverse, international community. The journal will disseminate trustworthy, evidence-based information, especially on managing increasingly older and complex patients, while addressing the challenges posed by misinformation and pressures on the profession.

📌 Encourage innovative scholarship that develops new ways to implement preventive measures for cardiovascular disease at scale, learning from countries that have creatively overcome cultural, financial, or geographic obstacles

📌 Demystify emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), and make them accessible and familiar to the cardiovascular community and narrow the divide between clinicians and data/computer scientists.

“We want to inspire and support the next generation of cardiovascular investigators and hold ourselves responsible for communicating the importance of conducting research that has the potential to improve cardiovascular health and, thus, the quality of life of hundreds of millions of people worldwide,” she writes.

Parents’ use of technology may influence their child’s health and development.

A systematic review and meta-analysis published in JAMA Pediatrics found associations between parental technology use and poorer cognition, less prosocial behavior, lower attachment, increased internalizing and externalizing problems, and higher screen time for children younger than 5 years.

Systematic review: Brief resolved unexplained event (BRUE) in infants showed serious underlying diagnoses in 6% and very rare mortality. Higher risk was linked to multiple events and prematurity, while most routine diagnostic tests, including metabolic panels and electrocardiograms, had low diagnostic yield.

Higher family connection in adolescence was associated with greater multidimensional social connection in adulthood, including stronger relationship structure, function, and quality.

These findings suggest that promoting safe, stable, and nurturing family relationships during adolescence could reduce adult loneliness and social isolation.
