In a nationally representative survey study of US children aged 3 to 17 years, parent-reported chronic pain was more than twice as prevalent in children with developmental disabilities (13.2%) compared with those without disabilities (5.5%) over 2016-2023.

risk was elevated across all disability categories, especially seizure disorders and cerebral palsy. Lower parental education, lower family income, and greater exposure to adverse childhood experiences were also independently associated with higher odds of parent-reported chronic pain among children with disabilities.

From JAMA: Among US , an electronic health record–based definition identified in 1.3% of encounters, with an in-hospital mortality rate of 10%.

This approach, adapted from the Phoenix criteria, projects more than 18 000 nonneonatal pediatric sepsis cases and over 1800 deaths annually. Sepsis was present in nearly one-fifth of hospitalizations that resulted in death, with higher rates of intensive care unit admission, longer lengths of stay, and increased prevalence of chronic conditions among affected children.

The Pediatric Sepsis Event definition supports standardized surveillance and quality improvement across diverse hospital settings.
