I remember one high Tibetan monk who spent 20 or 30 years in the Chinese concentration camps for no fault of his but having been a dignitary of the Tibetan monastic system. He said that he had gratitude to his interrogators for leading him to practise concrete compassion, while in his monastery, this was just a theoretical matter of debate in the courtyard, since monks there were at least normally nice. And when he was telling that, I remember that his eyes were sparkling and he had a big smile.
So, this ability to be grateful to everyone goes beyond just sitting on a cushion. It is taking everything which is happening to us as a path of practice. This will help us stop resenting people or situations. In Vajrayana, we see each of us as Manhjushri or Tara, and we really are, so, how would they then deal with the situation we are facing now ?
