This is BIG — and it matters for REAL people.
It’s can be hard to recognize malnutrition in someone who’s struggling to eat and its even harder to tell that individual nutrition therapy is not a covered Medicare benefit. For this and many nutrition related medical conditions, Medicare still doesn’t consistently cover nutrition services for so many people who need them. 🍽️💔
Nutrition care isn’t a luxury, it’s a low-cost, high-impact investment in health that can help prevent hospitalizations, improve outcomes, and empower people to eat and feel better.
✔️ Medicare does cover medical nutrition therapy if you have a diagnosis of diabetes or kidney disease (with a doctor’s referral) but that still leaves many individuals without support when they need it most.
We must keep advocating for better access to nutrition care for everyone. 🗣️💪. Lets do this!
Reintroduced in the U.S. Senate, the Academy is a proud champion of the Medical Nutrition Therapy Act.
