Hi friends and community partners,

We are reaching out with urgency today. Many of our Arc clients & families are directly affected by the government shutdown, resulting in a sudden reduction of essential food benefits. Some are struggling to keep basic staples in their kitchens.

To respond quickly and directly, we have launched an Emergency Food Drive — and we need your help.

To address local food insecurity amplified by recent changes and delays in CalFresh benefit distribution, The Arc of Butte County will be collecting non-perishable food and essential items. Our goal is to assemble boxes of staple food items that will directly support clients and families experiencing limited access to basic needs.

Recent cuts to food assistance programs have hit many of our clients hard, but your kindness brings comfort, stability, and dignity during a challenging time. Thank you for helping us stand together as a community!

How and Why to Celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month

1. Learn About the Value of Disability Inclusion
Here’s some of the evidence showing how inclusive workplaces thrive.

2. Share Employment Stories
Nothing shifts attitudes faster than real stories. We’ve seen how a single story about an employee thriving in their role can change the way a whole company thinks about disability. That’s why sharing matters. If you know someone with a disability who works, invite them to share their experience. If you’re an employer, highlight the contributions of employees with disabilities in your newsletter or on social media using . Encourage your local media to feature these stories to broaden public understanding.

3. Review Your Company’s Hiring Practices
Inclusive workplaces don’t happen by accident. They are built with intention.

4. Invest in Long-Term Change
Real inclusion requires more than awareness—it requires resources.

🌟 October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)! 🌟

Every October, we celebrate the incredible contributions of people with disabilities to the American economy and workforce. ✨

Did you know? NDEAM has been observed for over 75 years, originally established in 1945 as the National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week. It was later expanded to include all disabilities and renamed NDEAM in 1988 to highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion in employment.

This month is dedicated to raising awareness about disability employment issues, fostering understanding, and promoting supportive employment practices. Let's work together to create more inclusive workplaces where everyone has the opportunity to thrive! 💼
