Thanksgiving isn't just about turkey—it's about gratitude and connection!

This fourth Thursday in November marks a time when families and friends come together to celebrate all that they are thankful for.

Did you know the first Thanksgiving dates back to 1621? The Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared a feast that kickstarted a tradition of appreciation that spans centuries.

As we gather around our tables, remember—it's not just about the food we share, but the love and support we give each other. Let's cherish these moments and continue the spirit of thankfulness in our community!

For a Thanksgiving meal that aligns with diabetes management, consider filling your plate with lean protein and non-starchy vegetables, being mindful of serving sizes for starchy items such as potatoes and stuffing, and swapping out sugary dishes like sweet potato casserole and canned cranberry sauce for healthier alternatives. Incorporating a post-meal stroll and keeping an eye on blood sugar levels, particularly when taking medication, are crucial aspects of navigating the holiday while prioritizing your health.

Just a reminder, our stores will be closed on Thanksgiving, but open on Friday.

New flu strain raises concerns.

The United States may be facing another difficult influenza season, partly due to lagging vaccination rates and a newly mutated strain called Subclade K. This variant has already caused early surges in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Japan, and health experts warn it's just a plane or car ride away from widespread U.S. transmission if it hasn't arrived already.

Last winter's flu season was particularly severe, with the highest hospitalization rates in nearly 15 years. At least 280 children died from influenza complications, marking the highest pediatric death toll on record dating back to 2004.

The good news is that current flu vaccines do provide some protection against the new strain. Healthcare providers recommend getting vaccinated before gathering with vulnerable relatives during the upcoming holiday season.
