On August 18, Branch Health Clinic China Lake welcomed a delegation from the U.S. Senate, represented by Mr. Sean O’Keefe and Mr. Jonathan Clark, Professional Staff Members from the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The visit provided an opportunity to highlight the clinic’s capabilities and the essential healthcare services we deliver in support of the Naval Air Warfare Center, Weapons Division (NAWCWD). Discussions also emphasized the critical role of healthcare in sustaining the rural, remote, and isolated workforce at China Lake.

The delegation was escorted by Capt. Katherine Noel, USN, Legislative Liaison (Office of Legislative Affairs), and Mr. Jeremy “JV” Vaughan, Chief Strategy Officer for NAWCWD.

We extend our appreciation to our visitors for their time and interest in the mission of Branch Health Clinic China Lake and the service we provide to our service members and their families.

This week, Desert View Hospital had the rare experience of receiving an inbound patient transported by the incredible U.S. Navy VX-31 Search and Rescue team, also known as the “Dust Devils.” The patient had become lost in the unforgiving desert during dangerously high temperatures and was located and rescued thanks to the swift and skilled efforts of this elite military team.

As a critical access hospital, we don’t often receive direct inbound patients, especially from military aircraft. This mission was a powerful example of interagency collaboration and our shared commitment to protecting lives, no matter the circumstance.

We are deeply grateful to the VX-31 Dust Devils for their bravery, precision and partnership. We also want to extend our appreciation to all branches of the military for the work they do each day, often under extreme conditions, to serve and protect.

To the VX-31 team: thank you for your service and for entrusting us with your patient’s care. We are honored to support missions like yours. Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division

Photo of the Week!

U.S. Navy HM1 Brian Romero took to the skies during a reenlistment ceremony and search-and-rescue training flight this January. 🚁☁️

Romero is a flight medic responsible for providing critical medical care as the sole provider aboard the helicopter while also serving as an air crewman.

During the pictured flight, Romero hoisted a VX-9 XO 50 feet into the aircraft after securing him in an Air Rescue Vest harness, following a reenlistment ceremony held on a snowy peak, showcasing the extreme conditions and high-angle rescue skills that define his unique role.
