I absolutely loved connecting with the amazing women at the Women of Wisdom Wellness Seminar . Huge thank you to First Lady Denson for inviting me to speak and share my expertise in adult and adolescent mental health. It was inspiring to be in a space with women truly centered on wellness and growth.

This is such an important conversation. The traits and symptoms of su***de ideation in the Black community are a unique experience. Navigating support, assessment, and treatment effectively is crucial to saving yourself or someone else.

Between 2011 and 2021, the su***de rate for non-Hispanic Black individuals increased by 58%. Su***de is now the third leading cause of death for Black youth ages 10–24.

On Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 3 PM ET, NAMI’s CHEA Virtual Town Hall — Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges Series — will bring together leaders with deep expertise and lived experience.

Moderated by Stephanie Robertson, NAMI’s Director of Mental Health Equity Innovation, this conversation will feature:
- Victor Armstrong, MSW — American Foundation for Su***de Prevention
- Dr. Rosalynn Thyssen — Traeh Thyssen Have A HearT Foundation
- Dr. Sidney Hankerson — TRIUMPH

They’ll share strategies for prevention, healing, and creating spaces where Black/African ancestry individuals and families can feel seen, supported, and safe.

Sisters did an outstanding job presenting their final projects on strategies for community mental health support.

This season brought the loss of a friend who experienced mental illness. I decided to honor his legacy by creating an activity, “At your best”, which helps us to look in the mirror, reflect, and love ourselves, wholly.

We laughed and learned, we held space, and we grew. Can’t wait to see what we build next 💫

I had a great time with at “Dot” presented by So grateful for Director .kay_weldon sharing how his personal experiences influenced the production. Greatly appreciate that the cast took the time to share their insights on a taboo mental health topic.

This is a great time to familiarize yourself with the signs, symptoms, and resources for elder care, including Alzheimer’s and dementia. We can’t wait to see what else they have in store!

This holiday season brought an unexpected gift when my girls were invited to DJ the TDE toy giveaway in Nickerson gardens. Compton born, but having spent 2 decades in Oklahoma, I’ve felt disconnected from my history. I knew My grandmother raised my mother and uncles in Nickerson gardens In The 60s. This year I learned that After moving she returned to donate toys and Christmas baskets.

Although it is not so glorious to admit this, women experiencing abuse often feel invalidated, defeated or dually damaged by ineffective pastoral “counseling”. These notes adapted from ‘Crying Out for Justice’ give insight into why many well-intentioned clergy are unable to rectify the various forms of abuse. Relationships can be improved only when the power and control cycle is challenged, confronted, and interrupted.

Licensed Clinicians (LMFT/ MFT’s) tend to specialize in couples work. I, do not, but I CAN support individuals in becoming empowered and self-aware. I am also available to faith-based organizations for training and consultation .
