What makes Jurassic… Jurassic?

It isn’t one coaching style, one personality, or one kind of athlete.

It’s a shared belief in progress over perfection, meeting people where they are, doing hard things, and growing through them.

Most people don’t need more pressure to be perfect.

They need a place where showing up, starting small, and improving over time actually counts.

People matter here.

No two people walk through the door carrying the same story, goals, limitations, fears, or life stress. Good coaching should account for that.

We believe doing hard things matters.

Fitness should challenge you, support you, and meet you at your current level while helping you move forward.

Choosing discomfort on purpose teaches you something about yourself that carries far beyond the gym.

And maybe most of all, relationships matter.

People do better when they feel known, accepted, heard, and included.

People notice when you’re gone here.
People here genuinely root for you.
And coaching feels personal here.

Across every one of our coaches’ stories, the same themes show up:

Progress.
Adaptability.
Resilience.
Care.

And a commitment to treating coaching as a craft, always learning how to serve people better.

That’s the culture we work to build.

Real people. Coached well. Making progress together. 🦖

If you’ve been curious about starting, we’d love to meet you.

Meet Coach Kayla 🤍

Kayla didn’t always see herself as a “workout person.”

That changed when she found CrossFit in her early 20s, and she’s been doing it for almost 11 years now. She was drawn to how different it was, with new skills to learn and ways to improve.

Around the time she and Lucas began dating, he was working toward his Level 1 and had the idea to open a gym. She encouraged him to go for it, knowing it was better to try than to always wonder “what if.”

She never planned on becoming a coach.

She started with nutrition coaching and was eventually encouraged to step into personal training and then classes. At the time, she didn’t feel confident leading and often compared herself to other coaches.

Over time, that shifted.

What started as something she didn’t feel qualified for became something she truly loves doing.

One of the biggest challenges in her journey came postpartum after a C-section, and again around the time she stopped breastfeeding. It was a season of rebuilding, patience, and learning to move at a pace that supported healing and health.

Those experiences forced her back to the basics and gave her a deeper level of empathy for what it feels like to feel stuck and have to rebuild.

That perspective shapes how she coaches today.

Her approach is collaborative, observant, and thoughtful, focused on meeting people where they are while helping them move forward.

For Kayla, success in fitness and in coaching is staying humble enough to keep improving while recognizing how far you’ve come.

One of the biggest lessons she carries beyond the gym is simple.

Choosing to do hard things in the gym makes it easier to do hard things in life. It’s not just physical. Stepping outside your comfort zone in one area carries into everything else.

And when those hard moments come, she leans on a simple reminder.

You’ve made it through 100% of your hardest days. Keep going.

We’re grateful to have Coach Kayla on the Jurassic team. 🦖

Meet Coach Lucas 🤍

Lucas’s journey with CrossFit started the same way a lot of journeys do.

He needed something different.

Originally, he set out to lose weight, but he found himself wanting more. He liked the challenge of CrossFit, even though he wasn’t very good at it when he started.

And that was exactly what drew him in.

It gave him something to work toward.

As he began to see progress, he got hooked. Over time, he learned more about what he was doing, how to train with intention, and how to keep improving.

But what kept him in it wasn’t just the results.

It was the people.

Training alongside others, building friendships, and creating an environment where people actually want to show up became just as important as the workouts themselves.

Along the way, Lucas also had to learn how to train around limitations, including arthritis and shoulder mobility challenges. Those experiences shape how he coaches today.

They reinforced that progress doesn’t come from doing everything perfectly. It comes from adapting, staying consistent, and continuing to move forward.

For Lucas, success in fitness is simple.

Overcoming adversity and making progress.

And as a coach, success means athletes hitting the intended stimulus, classes running well, and people walking away having had a good experience.

One of the biggest lessons he carries beyond the gym is to embrace doing hard things.

Because that mindset doesn’t just build fitness.

It builds everything else too.

We’re grateful to have Lucas leading the Jurassic team. 🦖

Meet Coach Shannon 🤍

Shannon’s journey to CrossFit started as a way to become a stronger runner, but it quickly became much more than that.

Encouraged by family to try it with them, she jumped in and went through on-ramp, not knowing just how much it would impact her. While they decided it wasn’t for them, Shannon was hooked.

She fell in love with the versatility of the workouts, the coaches, and the people. More than that, she discovered a new passion in pushing herself to do things she once didn’t think were possible.

Physical activity has always been important to her. Along the way, Shannon has navigated injuries that created limitations in what she could physically do. Those experiences shaped how she coaches today, with a focus on helping people find options that work for them.

It gave her a deeper understanding of how different every athlete’s journey can be.

That perspective allows her to better adapt, communicate, and support each individual based on their needs, meeting them where they are and helping them continue to grow.

For Shannon, success in fitness is understanding that it’s a personal journey. It’s not about comparison, even though competition can be fun at times. It’s about becoming better than you were before.

As a coach, success means helping athletes truly believe in themselves and recognize what they’re capable of.

One of the biggest lessons she carries beyond the gym is to let go of preconceived perceptions of others. You never fully know someone’s story, what they’ve been through, or what they’re capable of.

Her personal motto reflects how she approaches both fitness and life.

Find the joy in your journey.

We’re grateful to have Coach Shannon on the Jurassic team. 🦖

Meet Coach Jenny 🤍

Jenny’s journey to CrossFit came during a time when she was searching for more than just a workout.

After losing a significant amount of weight, she found herself struggling with body image and feeling disconnected. At the same time, transitioning to working from home left her feeling isolated and missing a sense of community.

She turned to CrossFit as a way to rebuild both her health and her connection to others.

And it worked.

Through her journey, Jenny learned that fitness isn’t one-size-fits-all. Everyone brings different needs, challenges, and experiences, and real progress comes from adapting the approach to the individual.

That perspective shapes how she coaches today.

She brings a direct but supportive approach to coaching, grounded in meeting athletes where they are and helping them build confidence over time.

For Jenny, success in both fitness and coaching is about making progress over time, staying consistent, and helping others reach their goals while building confidence along the way.

One of the biggest lessons she carries beyond the gym is simple.

You can do hard things.

The ability to push through difficult moments, whether in a workout or in everyday life.

We’re grateful to have Coach Jenny on the Jurassic team. 🦖

Meet Coach Emily 🤍

Emily’s CrossFit story started with a simple Google search.

After seeing her brother enjoy his experience at a CrossFit-style gym, she looked up “CrossFit gyms near me” and found Jurassic. She reached out to see if she could come try a class.

She showed up, and the workout included handstand push ups. That alone was enough for her to think, “I’m going to politely excuse myself and run away when this is over.”

But instead of running, she stayed.

She sat down for a No Sweat Intro after class, agreed to go through the on-ramp program, and the rest is history.

She also believes something else is what makes Jurassic special.

Sometimes CrossFit can come across as exclusive or “members only.” She never felt that here. From day one, she felt welcomed and supported, and she’s convinced she wouldn’t have stayed long enough to fall in love with CrossFit if Jurassic hadn’t been her first experience.

One of the biggest lessons Emily has learned is that it really is a journey. It’s not linear, it’s not always quick, and there will be ups and downs. What matters most is consistency, especially when it comes to health, fitness, and nutrition.

That mindset shapes the way she coaches today.

She sees her role as an advocate for her athletes, helping them keep showing up, keep chipping away, and trust the process.

For Emily, success in fitness and in coaching comes down to this idea.

Becoming better at doing hard things.

Like the Duke women’s basketball coach says, success is becoming better at doing hard things. Life doesn’t get easier, but we get better at handling what’s in front of us. As we grow, we take on new challenges, and that cycle continues.

Her personal motto reflects that approach:
Just show up. You’ll be glad you did.

We’re grateful to have Coach Emily on the Jurassic team. 🦖

Meet Coach Des 🤍

Des’s CrossFit story started in a way that feels almost meant to be.

While visiting her parents in 2016 during a break from college, their neighbor came over and asked if she wanted to try out a new gym. That neighbor just happened to be Lucas’s mom, and the gym just happened to be CrossFit.

Her first workouts included running, rowing, and even the Hero WOD “Morrison.” Not at all her favorite, but something about it stuck.

After heading back to her college town, she continued training at Pullman CrossFit before eventually moving back and joining Jurassic after graduation.

One of the biggest lessons Des learned along the way came from dialing in her nutrition. For years she underestimated how much it affected her energy, recovery, and performance in the gym. It took a good friend challenging her excuses and asking a lot of “why” questions before things really started to click.

Once she made those changes, she experienced one of her best years of CrossFit from a performance perspective. Like most things in fitness, it continues to evolve as she works to find the balance between simplicity, enjoyment, and what drives great performance.

That experience shaped the way she coaches today. She understands how much fueling, habits, and lifestyle impact training, and she also understands how difficult it can be to change those habits.

For Des, success in fitness means living a life where her physical ability doesn’t limit what she wants to do. CrossFit helps her manage stress, ease everyday aches, and experience the accomplishment of doing something she once thought she couldn’t.

As a coach, success means seeing athletes recognize their own progress and feel proud of how far they’ve come.

One of the biggest lessons CrossFit has taught her is simple.

You can do hard things.

And that mindset doesn’t just apply inside the gym.

We’re grateful to have Coach Des on the Jurassic team. 🦖

Meet Coach Daniel 🤍

Daniel’s path to CrossFit started the way many good things do, with a little encouragement from someone close to him.

After playing sports throughout high school and lifting through college, he continued training and eventually added running into the mix. CrossFit had always caught his attention, but he never quite pulled the trigger.

That changed when his wife encouraged him to try it for his 36th birthday.

Five years later, he’s not only still here, he’s helping others on their own journeys.

Along the way, Daniel faced a major setback when he tore his ACL during a competition. The injury forced a complete reset, but it also reinforced an important lesson that shapes how he approaches both training and coaching today.

For Daniel, success in both fitness and coaching comes down to one word: progress.

Sometimes that means scaling a workout. Sometimes it means stepping back, practicing humility, and rebuilding foundational fitness. Progress rarely happens overnight, but steady, intentional work over time leads to meaningful change.

He knows he won’t wake up one day and instantly reach every goal, and he won’t coach a single class and get every athlete there either. Real progress happens slowly and intentionally, through consistent movement toward the goals that matter most.

We’re grateful to have Coach Daniel on the Jurassic team. 🦖

Meet Coach Ali 🤍

Ali joined the Jurassic coaching team in May 2025, but her journey with CrossFit didn’t start with instant excitement.

She often drove past Jurassic, saw the giant tires sitting in the yard, and thought, “Those CrossFit people are crazy.” Years later, she still wasn’t interested, but her husband was. She came along to the “No-Sweat Intro” to support him. She became interest, and so they both signed up, but she planned to quit after seeing her six week results.

Her first week included handstand walks and rope climbs, and she joked that she had accidentally joined the circus instead of a gym. But she discovered that workouts could be adjusted and training could be tailored to meet anyone where they were.

Over those next few weeks, something shifted.

Her goals changed. She started making friends. She liked the coaching a lot. She the found herself a year later drawn to the coaching herself and helping others navigate their own journeys, no matter where they’re starting from.

Ali believes fitness isn’t about one lift, one workout, or one moment. You can’t judge someone by how athletic they look or how fast they move. Everyone walks in carrying a bigger picture such as celebrations, losses, stress, and growth, and coaching means honoring that.

Her approach centers on listening, planning, and communicating, with the goal of helping people make progress over time in ways that truly matter to them.

We’re grateful to have Ali on the Jurassic team. 🦖

People are more socially isolated than ever.

Work.
Home.
Repeat.

Not enough people have a “third place.”

A third place is somewhere that isn’t your job and isn’t your house. It’s somewhere you go consistently. Somewhere people recognize you. Somewhere they know your name.

It could be a coffee shop.
A library.
A paint class.
A church.
A bowling league.
A running club.
A gym.

Humans are wired for connection.
Conversation.
Shared effort.
Being seen.

That kind of consistency has a real impact on mental health and overall well-being.

If you don’t have a third place, find one and go often.

We’re proud to be that place for a lot of people. 🤍

02/17/2026

Here’s what opening and closing the gym looks like before and after the evening classes.

Unlock the doors.
Check the space.
Reset the gym for tomorrow.
Lights out.

It’s almost never just one person doing it. Members don’t just clean up after themselves. They look around and help reset the space. Coaches stick around to make sure the next day is ready to go.

The systems keep this place organized. The people are what make it work.
