Today I was struggling to deal with the 30 degree temperature drop. The weather changing so much recently made me think about change in general. Most people don’t like change. Change is uncomfortable. Can people change? I believe they can if they truly want to. Change takes work and time. It is not linear. People have to want to change enough to be uncomfortable. I have said before that the best people come to therapy but also the bravest, because change is uncomfortable. But we don’t grow being comfortable.

When you learn to love yourself everything will change for the better.
Loving yourself looks like surrounding yourself with things that bring you joy. I’ve shared a few things that do that for me.
Loving yourself means not abandoning yourself to make others happy or to keep someone from leaving.
Loving yourself means setting healthy boundaries and not feeling guilty about it.
Loving yourself means talking to yourself like someone you love.
Loving yourself means treating yourself like someone you love.
When you love yourself your relationships will change and some may even end- but know that if a relationship ends because you started loving yourself it was never a healthy relationship to begin with.
I would love to hear how you loved yourself today.

Real connection takes time whether it’s with people or horses. Trust is built with time, patience and consistency. And the beautiful thing is that if we slow down we build a relationship that feels grounded and safe.

At the ranch today we added a horse name Jenny Rose in with my main two therapy horses. They are taking time to get to know each other and they are honoring their boundaries and space.💕

The ranch is a very special place to me. A connection to my childhood and so many things I love. This is a picture of my dear dad and a bridge he built. He used all repurposed wood and tin other than a few new boards. The old materials were all taken from an old barn that the tornado destroyed. That barn was so special- I literally grew up in that barn. This bridge will always hold a special connection for me to so many good memories.
I’m excited to share this bridge at all my spring retreats and groups coming up, and with spring rains we will need it to cross the creek!

A beautiful day to be in nature! Nature can be such a wonderful way to regulate our nervous system. Nature helps to ground us in the present moment and activate a calm state in our body, helping us to slow down and exhale.

I’m thankful to work in nature. As a therapist I have my own stress/anxiety. Being at the ranch makes me a better therapist because it’s my peace. These are a few photos of my day. Beautiful sunshine and wonderful trails, an adorable grumpy old pony and some baby squirrels that fell out of their nest. They were taken to WildCare an incredible rehabilitation program for wildlife. I’m happy to be able to share this peaceful place with my clients.

When I arrived at the ranch today I was told that my horse Maude had been difficult for the farrier yesterday. Mainly difficult to catch. Maude is new to the ranch as of August of last year. And to be fair with the recent weather I have not spent much time with her. When the farrier is at the ranch the horses are stirred up a bit. As prey animals they are on high alert and may use their first line of defense which is to run. So I knew today that Maude might need some help regulating and feeling safe. By going in with calm energy and respecting her boundaries she felt safe to connect with me. We all need to feel safe in order to connect with others.
