Happy Thursday from Pivot Physical Therapy, PLLC
Nice reminder to keep going!!!
3 months ago this lady went in for a knee replacement of right knee. When she came out of surgery, the knee worked fine however, the right foot would not move!! She had zero activation of the muscles that move your foot up (these muscles allow you to clear your foot from the ground). Making you drag your toes across the ground with walking.
Obviously, this was not a normal thing that happens during a knee replacement surgery, it had the surgeon and me stumped.
She was very worried. Her daughters and her had planned a trip to Italy in mid September. She was going to cancel her trip. "How can I go to Italy in 3 months, when I can not walk?" I told her, no you are going to Italy, we will get you a custom AFO (brace to keep foot in neutral position, making walking easier), you will modify your trip with walking and go enjoy your time with your daughter, the country side, wine and carbs! π She still was worried. The surgeon wanted to do another surgery to take pressure off of the nerve, behind the knee. I said wait until you get back from your trip, let's give the body time to heal that nerve. I had a feeling it got stretched during the surgery, and just needed time to heal.
Welll...this video is proof that the nerve has healed...she can move her foot!!! Now, she will be going to Italy next week with a working right foot. She left the office smiling from ear to ear!!!
Life is never perfect, worries and set backs happen...but always keep going!!!! π
