Blood Bank of Delmarva is a non-profit community service organization that provides blood and blood products to 19 hospitals on the Delmarva Peninsula. More than 79,000 blood donations are needed in this area each year for about 20,000 patients across the Delmarva Peninsula. Blood Bank of Delmarva merged with New York Blood Center Enterprise (NYBCe) in August 2019. Our very own Communications Specialist, Tony Prado, attends countless high school and college blood drives to share donor stories and highlight the importance of engaging young donors. But at the recent Cab Calloway School of the Arts Blood Drive, something extra meaningful happened -- Tony’s daughter, Sophia, made her first-ever blood donation. 🙌

“It was pretty fun,” Sophia, a 16-year-old junior and member of the National Honor Society, said. “It had always been my plan to donate since I was 16."

When young people choose to step up, support one another, and give back, they’re building the next generation of lifesavers.

We’re incredibly proud of Sophia and grateful to every student who rolled up their sleeve to make a difference.

A huge round of applause for Cab Calloway School of the Arts! 👏 👏

Their fall semester blood driver was a tremendous success — every one of the 45 whole blood appointments were filled, bringing out several first-time donors and generating incredible energy throughout the day.

Thanks to the outstanding leadership of Cab Calloway’s National Honor Society chapter, the drive collected 41 total units, surpassing their goal of 38!

Please meet high school student and first-time donor, Madison! She was inspired by her mom to donate at last week's Archmere Academy drive.

“My mom usually gives blood, and she says it’s a good deed,” Madison said. “Once they put the needle in, it’s not that bad, and I’m scared of needles!”

Meet Eric, one of our incredible platelet and blood donors, who just celebrated an amazing 275 lifetime donations!

When asked what keeps him coming back, Eric shared, “I have my health, and if I can share it with someone that needs it… that’s great!” Thank you, Eric, for your remarkable dedication and compassion — and for showing what it means to give the gift of life, again and again.

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Accident victims, cancer patients, newborns, and those undergoing surgeries all rely on a steady supply of lifesaving donations. But right now, that supply is critically low.

“I just want to give back to the community,” said 16-year-old first-time donor Josephine. “I know there’s a lot of hospitals that need blood.”

A huge thank you to the many students of Archmere Academy who rolled up their sleeves and made this week's blood drive a success. Not only did we see many first-time donors, but we collected enough blood to save up to 72 lives. 💚

When Colbert needed four units of lifesaving blood, he and Estrella felt the power of donors firsthand. Now, they come and give back by donating themselves. 💙

Estrella put it best, "It’s not scary… just a few minutes of your time can touch a lot of people."

And in case you were curious, Oreos and Cheez-Its were their post-donation snacks of choice! 🧀🍪

This Veterans Day, we’re honoring donors like Josh— a regular platelet donor who learned he’ll be deployed early this month. Before leaving home to serve our country, Josh made one last lifesaving donation: a triple platelet to help patients in need.
