Golden advice that every healthcare foodservice professional should hear...
In dm&a's recent podcast episode, Amanda Goldman shares decades of wisdom on elevating patient care, building stronger teams, and future-proofing healthcare nutrition.
1) Get comfortable being uncomfortable — Amanda's career advice? Step out of your comfort zone: "Becoming comfortable with feeling uncomfortable is something that I have literally forced myself to do over the years." Join committees, get involved in associations like AHF or ANFP. It's how you grow, network, and give back.
2) Malnutrition matters more than most realize — A huge percentage of acute-care patients enter with some level of malnutrition, impacting length of stay, healing, fall risk, and skin breakdown. Nutrition is a core part of the healing process, and we're getting better at making hospital food delicious and therapeutic.
3) Break down silos for real collaboration — Amanda stresses the power of getting clinical dietitians into the kitchen: meeting cooks, talking food, and building comfort. "It's really important that everyone does work together... there's no 'I' in team." When dietitians and chefs connect, patient service and satisfaction soar.
4) Skate to where the puck is going — "A great player plays where the puck is going to be... I really think that speaks to strategy." In our fast-evolving field, vision and proactive planning separate good leaders from great ones.
If you haven't listened yet, the full conversation is packed with more practical wisdom, career stories, and industry trends.
